So I ordered my 2100+ and 8RDA+, now what fan do I get for OCing? (HAV-V81?)

I am ready to build a new awesome system! Got my 8RDA+ and Athlon 2100+ B. I want to OC at least like 200mhz, which cooling fan is the best value for your money??? I have heard good things about newegg's CPU FAN|HAC-V81 BASE COPPER AMD/INTEL Retail Adjustable Fan Speed for control of cooling/noise ratio for only $12????????????

Edit: because of the large clip on this fan, many people had to bend it.......anybody know how this fan works out with the Epox 8RDA+??

If you want a real good cooler for cheap, get an sk6+ at SVC.com. I think they're $10. Then put an 80mm fan on there. They have a 2500rpm fan for $2.95. You have to rotate the fan body 1/4 turn so that the corners hang off the sides of the heatsink for an 80mm to fit. Or get the YS-Tech 80mm variable speed fan so you can choose your noise/cooling level.
Now if you really want to go cheap get the GC-68 at SVC for $5. It will work. People here are overclocking with them. I have one on my video card (call me crazy, but now it overclocks great!). I think its much better than the one you mentioned from NewEgg.

Actually I am disappointed w/ that combo. I have AMD 1700+ at 2.2ghz, w/ the SLK800 + 80mm I get 45C. b4 that I use my home made PIII(the big one) heatsink w/ Xeron fan, I get SAME 45C.

Only trouble with SK-7 is, 80mm fan will not fit directly on it. You will have to fit it in 45 degree. Once you have a fan in 45 angle you lose a little bit of airflow.

I have both the HAC-V81 and the GC-68. The GC-68 was fine for older processors (i.e. old athlon 1.2's), but failed miserably on my 1700+ "A".

The caveat on HAC-V81 is, you really have to lap them. The bottom of this heatsink is very very rough, you can literally drag your fingernail across it and feel vibration from the grooves. Once I lapped it down, both of mine have performed very nicely, on a 1700 T-Bred "B" 0302 at 2.22 Ghz, and the 1700 "A" at 1.8Ghz.

I don't have any experience with the other HSF's mentioned.

I just got a 2100+ with a hav-v81. It's a good hs/f but has a couple of issues. First off, it's too frickin' big. I had to bend back the metal latch thingy and remove the power supply from my case to get the thing to fit in my pc. Secondly, if you're gonna go crazy with the overclock, it isn't the best cooler (but close). If I had to do it again, I'd get the thermaltake volcano 9.

BTW, you should be able to get your 2100+ to at least 2100MHz easy. Mine is running at 2166 by simply turning the fsb to 166 from 133.

I'm running a Volcano 9, and I HATE the noise on this thing. I've had noisy fans before (usually the retail HSF) but this thing is the loudest one I've ever heard. It's horrible.

I'm not usually one to complain about noise, but this is too much.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I bought the HAC-V81 because I felt it had the best price/cooling/noise ratio. Thanks for reminding me why I didn't get the ThermalTake, Rebel del Rio.

Actually, I just figured out one thing I was doing wrong. I was under the impression from the instructions that you are supposed to jumper the temperature sensor if you use the speed control knob. That's not right - jumpering the sensor line will make it run at top speed constantly. After taking the jumper off, I can now control the speed to get a good mix of performance/noise. I'm much happier now.

Still wish I had a better cooling solution, though. I can't get this chip under 50 degrees C no matter what I do. But for $20, I paid between 1/2 and 1/3 of the slk-800 with a good fan.
