The mazdaspeed 3 equals cheap sportiness and speed.
WRX Looks a bit nicer in my opinion and has AWD.
Legacy looks classier but costs about 30k.
Saab 93 looks sexy and I could get the 2.0T but it only has 210bhp =(

I'm leaning more towards the Saab 93 or the mazdaspeed 3. But if I were to get the Saab 93, I'd want to go for the Aero model which has a turbocharged v6 instead (Again, 30k =( ).

speed 3

wrx is uncomfortable imo.

edit : for 30k I would get a used 04-03 TDI Jetta and a nice S2000 for weekends or other sports car

I drove a 9-3 2.0T last month, and it has plenty of ZOOM ZOOM. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY faster than my Audi 1.8T. The only problem with Saabs is their dismal reliability, but at least now you get the GM 100,000 mile warranty (and judging by Consumer Reports, you'll need it).

My friend that I used to work with got an 06 WRX and the interior looked cheaper than my SRT-4

Honda Civic Si sedan? It looks very nice. The coupe version is nice too.

Seems like you want performance. Can you wait for the upcoming Subaru Impreza WRX?

thomsbrain's stock response:

Yeah, but you can get an Accord V6 6-speed for the same price ($25K is easy), and it's much nicer inside, feels quicker and more responsive, and is more fun to drive (I've driven both). even the auto version has a very smart auto that will automatically engine brake into turns and down hills, and hold shorter gears when you're driving hard. the 6-speed is one the best boxes you'll find this side of the S2000.

I'd say first look at the MS3 and see what it is really selling for, since most are marked up right now. That might help you make your decision or possibly narrow your list. $23K is a great price... $26K for an aging econobox that was never up to snuff in the fit/finish department might start to sound less attractive, despite the power.

you might also find a good deal on a used car from your list that might swing you. though i prefer the accord to the legacy, if you found a nice used legacy for a great price, i'd recommend jumping on it.

i'd stay away from the Saabs. they really aren't all that sporty.

oh please, people keep railing on the wrx interior just to complain. It's not that cheap, and i find it plenty pleasing to the eye. And I'm not one to not complain about interiors. Sorry but the SRT4 looses badly in that department. I sat in one once hoping to find it somewhat interesting or at least have decent seats. I couldn't stay in there for more than a minute.

get the Legacy. Be more refined, larger, and fun to drive.

The seats are harsh if you are fat or big since the bolsters are very aggresive and the srt has a boost gauge to boot but hell we're arguing over compact car interiors which is like winning the special olympics. You thought the SRT interior was cheap, I thought the WRX interior was cheap, subjective.

imo, between a wrx and ms3. my friend just bought an 06 rex, and it is a beast. he let me drive it a few times, since he didnt know how to drive stick when he got it. its very beast-like, but maybe not super fast. the mazdaspeed from what i hear, is absolutely amazing, from the seats to the torque. its a tie between those, at least until further research

I'm not fat. I'm actually kind of small. I guess I have to go and have a look at the interiors to decide. I would want it more refined and not look like a teenager's car (WRX). The legacy gt might fit the bill, since it's semi aggressive yet classy looking (to an extent). How much is the mazda marked up to? I remember seeing a civic si marked up to 27k. I definitely don't want another honda.

Thanks for the choices. But I should have mentioned I want only one car.

2% below invoice , no haggling with the subaru VIP program (link)

WRX looks better?!?!?!

I'd say speed3, but I'm biased. Legacy GT if you are looking for something that looks more.. "mature" sorta. And possible a better deal since it seems the speed3 is selling for a bit more than MSRP it seems :(

If you can, wait a few months until the 2008 Impreza comes out. The new sedan looks a lot like a small Legacy (and the hatchback looks bit like a Mazda 3), and the WRX version gets the current Legacy GT's engine (which is re-chippable to 300hp easily).

'05 or '06 G35? You can pick them up for $22-$25k. Will still have a decent amount of original warranty too.
