It would be a Web Developer Position (converting psd's to xhtml/css, etc.).. at $15/hr
(p.s: I'm fresh out of high school)

I have some questions for those of you with jobs..

1) How far do you travel each way? What do you use (metro, car) ?

2) Your position + rate per hour?

3) Do you enjoy it? What are the hours? What's it like?

Edit: This is my second day after the second interview.. should I be calling them? or waiting patiently?

Meh, a grunt worker makes more. Something like $17 an hour if you work on the floor of a distribution center, plus you get buff.

Spend the extra money on learning some skill that makes more than 15 starting :p

Although if this is just a temp job, go for it. Monay monay monay!

I wouldn't call that "web development", but good luck or congratulations or whatever. ;)

Why not? Sliciing PSD's and writing (X)HTML is developing a website. ;)

In addition to all the CSS browser bugs, I'll be integrating the client-side code which I'll create with server-side.

My first job was telemarketing at $9/hr. Last fall. That's pretty good what you've got.

Oh, yeah, I see why you call it the metro instead of the subway. Yeah, born in New Orleans, raised in NoVA, schooling in Richmond here. But I don't have a car, so until the semester starts Metrobus is my best friend.

What you have is a pretty darn sweet job and pretty smart if you know how to do all that fresh out of HS.
$15 is well above what other people your age are getting.

Beat me to it.

Also:

1) How far do you travel each way? What do you use (metro, car) ?
About 1 mile. Seriously. From the time I step out my door until I arrive at work, it takes three minutes.

2) Your position + rate per hour?
I do so much random stuff that I don't even remember my real job title (mostly graphic design and databases). I get paid too much for what I do (not gonna share), but I'm leaving for something more stimulating.

3) Do you enjoy it? What are the hours? What's it like?
The people are nice, but projects for my position are running thin. Of course, I basically come and go as I please, so it's not bad.

Pink Floyd....

:music:
Welcome....
Welcome to the machine.
:music:

1) 85 miles currently, drive
2) nunya
3) I enjoy it only in that I can direct others to create for me. Using experience to make good decisions and executing them is rewarding as well as the opportunity to lift others in their skill/driving a business in a direction that I know is good for them.

Considering that's about the average national wage I'd say it's pretty good. If he ever makes a penny more in his life he'll be above average, and he's doing it in his very first job. I don't see how that's anything but outstanding.

WTF are you talking about? I'd like to hear about a physical job where you get $17/hour unskilled labor. Only thing close I've *heard* about is like UPS/Fedex, and that's all conjecture.

not conjecture, reality.

unskilled labor at UPS or any automanufacutring line can be 20-40 bucks an hour.

heck, even back in my day circa 1989 I was offered 13 bucks an hour at UPS to move packages. Hell, back then I moved furniture for 12 bucks an hour and got plenty overtime. Think about it, that was almost 20 years ago.

I used to install custom closet organizers (think California Closets), which doesn't really require any skills to speak of, and I made $21.50 an hour. Granted, my boss was an idiot and could have hired someone for half that.

I CAN GUARANTEE YOU FEDEX DOES NOT START YOU AT ANYWHERE NEAR 20 - 40 DOLLARS.

Agreed. Even in NYC you start at under $16/hr.

sure you can make a decent living by driving a big truck, moving boxes, construction, ...but i rather make more and be inside a a/c'd office.

$15 is a great start right out of high school. Even better if you're going to college at the same time. You'll be a step ahead of a lot of the freshmans. Plus at your age it's not how much you're making, but the kind of experience you're getting. CSS/XML looks a lot better than 'moving boxes at FedEx' on a resume.
