Some kid emails me about a laptop I have listed on criagslist. He wants to trade me some piece of sh!t Walmart brand 15" LCD and a 3mp Sony digi cam for my laptop. Ill be honest, the laptop is a celeron with only 256mb of memory(nothing special). I politely told him that I would pass on the trade and he responds with this:

Just another [] that don't want to help a disable college student in need of a computer. All they care about is the money.... Well guess I will just forget about finishing school now

Exactly, I don't have a problem with cutting someone a "deal" but to trade those items would be just plain stupid on my part.

Computers are required at my university. You'd be pretty stupid not to have one. Without access to the internet everyday you'd fail.In my classes homework assignments are given online. Some classes use it more than others but my Sociology class requires us to post discussion topics on discussion boards and upload all our assignments to their website. In our sociology class even group projects are done online. We each do a section and send it to each other, then another person organizes it and submits it to the site.

Cliffs: If you didn't have a computer you = fvcked. You'd have to spend your life in a computer lab.

There's really no excuse not to have a computer in college, and it is an absolute necessity. You can get a basic machine for web surfing and word processing (really all you *need*) for less than $100 complete, if you're resourceful.

When I was a freshman, I spent the first 2 months using an AMD 386 40 mhz machine w/dot matrix printer to type papers and get online assignments done while my new Gateway was "backordered." :roll:

This demon had 4 MB ram, a 2mb Trident VGA card, 10 mbps LAN card, and about 500 MB total HDD space. Max res was 600x800. I ran Windows 3.11 on it. I paid $30 for the machine, $10 for the blurry 15" Compudyne crap monitor - that I'm using right now, in fact, since my 19" CRT died 2 days ago - and $5 for the printer. This was in 1998.

That guy is full of sh!t.
