Spud gun.

Its my first spud gun so I hope its all good.

2in diameter barrel that's 3 feet long, and a 4 in diameter chamber thats 28 inches long. i just finished it so no shooting yet im waiting a day for everything to dry. to make the spark I used a flint lantern sparker( it is so cheap $1.50 each.) it cost me about $45 for everything.

comparison it is a 17 in laptop, a cd, and a chair.

comparison w/ backpack

comparison 3 w/ garbage container

chamber outside

chamber inside

UPDATE ok so i tried it with a paper ball for my first try HOLY S***! its fricken awsome. here is video
im the dude that you saw in the second clip

cool, i remember having fights with my friends using these as kids... although we usually made them about 2 and half to 3 feet big so we could run through the backyard with it in one hand and hair spray in the other hand. try to avoid getting hit in the forehead with a spud... it kinda sucks. i guess not as much as the balls, but i havent experienced that luckily :D

Time to update your wallpaper with a 360 degree panorama from one of the Mars Exploration Rovers. :D

Be safe with that thing, just make sure you don't wind up inadvertently launching either of your hands, should it blow up.

excellent. I made one late at night once when the stores werent open to buy the proper equipment for the sparker. So i used some wire, two nails, and a disposable camera. tied the wires to the flash capacitor, charged it up, touched the other ends together.... BOOM

We made a golf ball gun once and my friend fired it at a church from a moving car. It hit concrete and bounced back hitting the car window frame at massive velocity inches away from the shooter's head. This is the only evidence for the existence of god I have ever seen.

Freshgeardude, you are a madman. When you stole that cow, and your friend tried to make it with the cow. I want to party with you, cowboy. If the two of us together, forget it.

I made one of those when I was in HS. Epoxied a push button grill lighter into the chamber. That thing shot so well. Perfectly accurate!

meh....too short chamber...I have one that is about 4' chamber, 8' barrel. It's air powered though, and will launch a potato a DAMN long ways. It will also shoot right through a windshield of safety glass from about 100' away (clear through, nice round hole) and peel paint from about 25' away.

how much did it cost you? mine was 45 bucks and it was my first one so I didnt want to spend like $500 bucks and find out it wouldn't work.

Last summer we shot raw eggs out of a spud gun when we ran out of potatoes. They didn't break until they hit the ground.

very cheap, I think, 3 pieces of pipe (one is a ramrod, so you don't have to remove the back plug/diaphragm). A coupler, a reducer, collar and cap for the end, old air chuck, plastic dishpan....figure under 30 bucks or so.

biggest problem is you need an air compresser to launch, but since we usually just do it at the house, it's no big deal. We also have a couple on the service trucks for out on the farm use, and a huge ww2 trailer type if we have a bunch and want to go somewhere (haven't done that yet).
basic idea here (but mine is a bit different, no trouser legs :D)

I have had ~15 seconds of hang time with mine (shot essentially straight up)

Did "so I made a 6 foot Spud gun" not fit in the title? I could have sworn FuseTalk lets you have thread titles that long. Perhaps you should PM a mod
