I had a straight went all in with A,K,Q,J,10 and on the river my friends sister gets a royal flush.

First time in my life I have ever seen that.

Sonofa!

Edit:

I had K 10 off suited.

Flop was Jack diamonds, eight clubs, queen spades turn was Ace diamonds River was King diamonds

Friends sister had queen diamonds and 10 diamonds

Yeah it really is and it's pissing me off, because 3 or 4 years ago when I'd ask people if they knew how to play they didn't even know it existed, and now those same people are holding poker nights without me. Bastards.

I'd say the odds were definitely in your favor to win that hand. There's always going to be hands where you lose on the river when all-in.

If that card that completed your straight puts a flush on the board, and there wasn't much action before the river (which there couldn't have been--you had no reason to call with just 4 outs and no reason at all post flop), I wouldn't have gone all in. If you got a free roll to a straight, someone very well could have gotten a free roll to at least a flush. It's one of those situations where you'll only be called/raised if you're beaten, but if you're a winner they'll fold anyway. It's a check situation.

Then again, hindsight is 20/20, and it's hard not to bet when you hit your runner runner hand. I"ll stop kicking you while you're down.
