Sure it isn't the motherboard?

My sister had a PC that kept dinging because a fan died or something, I ended up having to go into the BIOS to shut that function off.

Are you listening to pirated music? back in the day I remember downloading* a song where the IM chime went off a couple of times.

*Don't steal music.

Me too.

It's like someone recorded their own audio when they were playing it on web somewhere to turn it into an MP3.

Be careful...my dog swears that the voices in my head are lying to me...

I swear sometimes I'll be doing something with my headphones on and I'll hear an IM noise but nothing actually came through. I think it's just about hearing something close to one and I hear it often enough that I perceive it as one. I donno 😱.

^^ ROFL. Reminds me of the one song I used to listen to that had a knocking sound in it. Every time the song played me and my girlfriend would go check the door to see if someone was there. This was a store bought CD no less (Jeff Buckley).

On a serious note, if you're in a work environment someone may have messed with your sound options as practical joke (has happened to me before). Go to your sound options and check common sounds that are used and see if one got replaced.

Hah, I also get scared when a song has police sirens in it while I'm driving. Always makes me paranoid and I try to find the cop.

I don't know why, but Outlook keeps dinging even though I have the "play sound" box unchecked...$*^&# % *#&%^
