And it is horrible. My memory usage on my SGS3 shot up to 95%. Uninstalled.

I can see the draw, but it is a massive resource hog.

Do you have the US version of the SGS3? Because as a 2GB phone, any single app using that much RAM is insane.

I've read several similar reports saying it's basically incomplete garbage right now. Given FB's mobile app development, this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

Agreed. No one should be surprised that Facebook doesn't know how to write software.

Anyone got a link to the APK? It's not available in the UK yet and I want to join in the bitching about how bad it is as well. :D

Can an app even use 95% of your memory? Aren't there memory limits in Android? I call shens.

here's what I got:

You should get an iPhone or windows phone and install it on that. ;)

That's besides the point. My point was that this is ridiculous. Why does this need to be "US only" and also limited to a few devices. Apps should just be rolled out across the board. But maybe they're trying to control the experience and making sure it's a uniform experience as it gets rolled out rather than having the app crash on some phone that's not used in the US cuz they couldn't bother to test it out first.

I went to Google Play and apparently Facebook Home is not compatible with my Nexus 4 (weird, what does this thing run on then?). Odd though, it shows my rooted NookColor to be compatible. :)

I guess this is intentional. They only release it on a few phone models (according to Engadget, the Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, and HTC One X+) as a way to stagger out the release and let those people be the open beta testers, so to speak.

I'm sure if you turn down the outrage and turn up the thinking you might get closer to some answers.

I installed it on my Note II to give it a try. I'll hang with it for a bit, but it's definitely simplistic. I do like the notifications cascading down the "lock screen" and I like that I don't have a lock screen.

App management is kind of stupid, though. It'd be nice if it just went to the standard app drawer when I move my dot to the Apps shortcut.

Just installed on my Note 2, don't like how to dominates the entire screen

The facebook app is all I'm ever going to install. Never going to install home. Especially if it's going to bloat up my phone like I fear it would.

You know the first 6 posts or so on this thread is all about outrage against Facebook in general. While the app has taken a while to progress, I'd say over the past year it's gotten to be pretty good. In terms of notification options you have a variety of options now. I do agree Facebook has somethings to work on like using Google C2M so we don't have a stupid service running. But even a 50mb service shouldn't bring today's phones to a crawl. It might an issue for those who run 2010 phones. Furthermore, Facebook doesn't really cause massive wakelocks. I can name a bunch of other more popular apps that cause more wakelocks (Google+, Line Messenger, etc.).

So Facebook might not be the best, but I'd say its app in the past 3 months is worlds better than it was 2 years ago.

As for Facebook Home launching on several phones, no there's no reason why it needs to be released on "several phones only." It doesn't make sense. I thought fragmentation is just a myth. IT's one thing to roll out an app to a limited audience like Google, but this isn't really what's going on.

Just used it... not bad... but certainly unnecessary... unless you really are using facebook on your phone primarily and everything else is... secondary.

I think the chat heads is interesting. Probably too invasive for my taste, but defienitely better than I thought. It can be usable.

I think the Facebook Messenger aspect of this app is half decent as it was inherited from Beluga. They just need to up it to get with the program though like send location (as in a map), pictures, etc. Kinda like Whatsapp. That's what they were going after anyway, but I haven't seen any innovation since Beluga.

Found the app fairly crappy TBH, it wasn't a resource hog but it does make doing anything but facebook on your phone a bit more difficult.

To the above post, facebook messenger works independently of this app.

The new FB Messenger app is great. Chat Heads is the most awesome feature ever, honestly.

FB Home, otoh... It's mostly alright as an FB replacement app, but I don't care for it as a launcher. I also wish there were some way to force it to display your news feed in chronological order. If it did that, I'd use it for FB.
