So, I just got my first cell phone. I'm almost 35.

They are frustrating. How do people type messages on these things? I can barely dial the number. I've always been a computer geek, just not a cell phone person. Finally moved to a larger city where I got dry loop dsl, and decided to try a cell phone.

Ended up with virgin mobile prepaid with the montly rollover. I started with 400 minutes, and I'll top up everymonth. Didn't want a contract. Was going with T-Mobile, but found out that they did not give out local numbers.

I keep loosing it. Haven't got use to a phone without a cord yet. I keep leaving the house, and going, "Oh yea, I can take my phone with me". . .

So far so good. I'm thinking of splurging for a 'ringtone' - what cool 80's song would you get?

How many minutes do you think you'll use? I thought you had to top up at least $20 every 3 months to keep the account alive?

80's song... something about never giving you up...

No, it doesn't seem like it. From what I've read on Howard's Forums, all the virgin phones are pretty well locked down. I got the cheapy 14.99 model, so not alot of 'tweaker' interest there it seems. I'm only going to get '1' ringtone though. . .

Ahhhhaaaahhh - yes, Rick Astley. You did it, the rick roll. That is what I'm getting.

If you want to use the phone @ 20 cents per minute, you are right. They have a new plan that you have to top up every 30 days, and it is 10 cents per minute or less. I bought the 30 dollar card, so it is 7.5 cpm. Whatever minutes I have left will roll over as long as I top up every 30.

I won't use that many minutes. I skypeout for long calls.

Oh wow. That is a bit late, but oh well you finally got one. From experience I can tell you that at first you will find it very awkward, and even lose interest. But after a while you will wonder how you ever lived without it. Yeah, a lot of younger people don't see it that way (especially nowadays), but when you are 35, you tend to see things differently. Regardless of everything, remember it was your decision, and how you feel is the only thing that matters. Congrats, I guess, that is only if you think it was something worth waiting for.

the valid rick roll 🙂

I hate my cell phone and rarely use it. I just put credit on it (prepaid phone) for the first time in 3 months because I need to use it to find a new flat mate. Also I use it as my alarm clock, but I almost never take it anywhere with me.

I also wish I wasn't such a slave to the cell phone as well.

Oh well I used up all my prepay credit about 3 weeks ago, so who knows what I'm missing.
