Now I know this guy is an idiot, but this one is pretty funny.

I got an email that says "Important Bill!" with "Bill.zip" attached.

anyway, according to Mcafee's online scan, it is the W32/Netsky.z@MM virus.

I guess 2 things are possible:

1. He sent the email himself (as the email came from his hotmail address, which I doubt the virus can get to)

2. He infected his own machine (if he was using outlook to get/send his hotmail messages)

What do you guys think?

The header of the email gives me his IP :) Should I have a little fun with this fool?

3. Your GF for some reason still has email address in her address book (maybe they are exchanging hot love emails behind your back) and the virus is using it to spread itself.

What is he doing with my email address then? I know my GF never talks to him, so he's obviously gone out of his way to get the address.

Seriously, why don't you check your GF's computer for the virus? It only makes sense that she would have both yours and the ex-BF's email address in her address book.

Well, she only uses hotmail, so there is no offline address book. That means that she can't be sending the virus out to him. Also, if it was sent from her computer, I would have got it as well, and I haven't.

I guess you need to read up on virus 101....

If it came from his email address, 99% of the time he isnt the one who is infected. The way most viruses work (to hide their true sender), is to choose an email address randomly from the infected computer's address book and fake that as who the email is coming from. Then it takes everyone else from the address book and sends them an email with the virus attached (with the fake sender information). Like someone mentioned above, it most likely means that your gf's computer is infected, as she would have both yours and his email addresses in outlook or wherever. You can also go check the headers of the email and see what the IP address is coming from if you really are that paranoid. Just see if it matches up with whatever your gf's provider is (or if you still think its her ex, his provider).

1. pics of your gf (full body shots, front and back)
2. your email address and password so we can inspect all of your emails to make sure this was the only one
3. an accuate count of how many girls you have slept with, included positions you did it in

I know that even if my GF's computer was infected, it wouldnt do anything because nobody uses outlook. There are no offline address books to get infected. I also know that her ex-bf isn't bright enough to sync hotmail with outlook.

I'm not paranoid about anything. I just want an excuse to do something to this prick. I dunno, start opening his CD-Rom or something on random :) My GF broke up with him like 2 years ago and he's just an idiot and doesn't go away.

Sigh.... I was hoping for you guys to just tell me to have a little fun.

Just have a little fun, reply to the email with pics attached of you plowing your g/f. Oh and make sure your g/f consents to this, or she might be mad.

I would bet big bucks your girlfriend has the virus.
It has NOTHING to do with Outlook.
The virus searches a variety of files on the computer (including temporary internet folders which are chock full of flat-out screenshots of your girlfriend's hotmail sessions, among other things), lifts e-mail addresses out those files and sends itself with a forged "FROM" header, also found on the infected host.

It uses its own SMTP engine to send - no interaction is required from Outlook or Hotmail.

If you're getting Netsky from someone, the culprit is most likely someone that has corresponded with both the sender and receiver at some point.

Go ahead. Scan the girlfriend's PC....

Delete it and let it go. It is not a big fvcking deal.

Well, the fact that your GF is still talking with him (probably sleeping with him on the side) is a big deal, but a virus email is no big deal.

the virus is a symbol of the STDs your GF is giving you, because she's still sleeping with her ex.

Assuming ti has its own SMTP function built in. 3/4's of the virus's made anymore are horrible cheap pathetic attempts at virus's.
Or is it virii? Or is virus singular and plural bath? Interesting......

Here's something else.

If my GF's computer is infected, and it is gathering info out of the temp internet files and picks a random address to spoof (or whatever it does), what are the chances that I just happened to get one that is spoofed from her ex-bf's address?

Now I know for a fact that my GF has not talked to her ex in like 8 months and seen him once in the last 18. The reason for that was his cousin commited suicide so she went to the funeral. Her sister does still talk to him, so if her computer is infected, thats where it came from.

Why dont you just scan the computer and be done with it? Thats going to be the easiest way
