there is a crudely drawn picture

You can't jaywalk on a bike anymore than you can jaywalk while driving. A bicycle is considered a vehicle and a left turn would be permitted. Now whether it's prudent is another story... But you were in violation of the law, so whether or not it makes sense to you is irrelevant. You can't expect much sympathy if you knew you were doing something illegal and got caught doing it.

Okay, i just thought the cops would have something better to do. I forget sometimes that no one on ATOT ever has broken the law or feel they got a stupid ticket.

Best part, its only like $130 dollars! Hell yeah!

Good. You put everyone at risk by doing that. Stop putting everyone in danger and drive an SUV while going over the limit by 10mph and texting at the same time.

If you're a woman, feel free to paint your nails.

NOES!

Yeah I don't see why you can't just cross the street. Bikes are supposed to act like cars, not like pedestrians. Therefore, bikes can't "jaywalk" and they are allowed to cross without a crosswalk (note that it's called a crosswalk and not a crossbike). That's what you should have done.

Think of yourself like a car pulling out of a driveway onto the road. If you have to make a left turn, you just turn left and get in your lane. You aren't forced to turn right.

EDIT: Beaten hard.

Your closing and impact speed with a car could be 20mph or 50 mph and you chose to make it 50mph. (assuming you were riding at 15mph)

oh ive gotten plenty of stupid tickets... and ive broken plenty of laws, even ones on that corner by your house... but i didnt complain about them. that area of tempe is very strict on bike rules, you should already know that. i live in mesa, but went to school in tempe, got harassed a lot for riding like an idiot. i always see bicyclists in the left turn lane doing it the right way, you should join them. out of all the cities in the phx metro area, tempe is the easiest to ride a bike in.

Why didn't you just say that you didn't know you couldn't do that? Usually, cops will let something minor slide.

I've gotten several tickets, and I was guilty in every situation. I wasn't happy about getting the tickets. I may have even bitched about it to my friends. But you know what I didn't do? Make a forum post asking people to back me up that a perfectly valid ticket was stupid or unjust. Part of being a responsible member of society is taking responsibility for your actions. You broke the law and you got caught doing it. Own up to it and learn a lesson from it instead of begging sympathy for something you deserve no sympathy for.

So, did you manage to pay the ticket?

Just try to be a little more careful.

My friend got hit by a car going the wrong way on a road. He was fine, and is an idiot...Someone was pulling out of an apartment complex and she didn't look towards oncoming traffic. He also assumed that she had seen him.

BTW this happened 2 minutes after I told him to ride in front of me because I was getting tired. Whoops.

Also, he was fine but his bike got messed up.

Sucks that you got a ticket.

Even though it's a valid ticket, you should fight it and either have it dismissed or the fine reduced. Whatever you do, don't just pay the fine

Your friend was going the wrong way and got hit by a car, or was hit by a car going the wrong way?
