in light of a million fried chicken recipes that claim to be "just like KFC Original Recipe," has anyone had any real experience with a fried chicken recipe that actually tastes like kentucky fried chicken? also any other recipe that is good for a deep fryer newb would be much appreciated.

pancake mix + beer = awesome (on onion rings or precooked chicken nuggets or anything)

you can also buy tempura mix that is good for fish. (like halibut strips)

I bought a premix thing of beer batter (just add beer!) and did some chicken tenders that way, it was delicious.

Another vote for Beer Batter, used it on the fish I caught last week and man that stuff is good.

A fast treat similar to doughnut holes:

Buy one of the cardboard tubes with dough for rolls, split each roll in half and deep fry till golden.
Coat with powdered sugar, cinnamon and sugar, or just plain with honey.

With fried chicken just dip the chicken in a beaten egg then roll in flour. then repeat a second time if you want. Make sure the chicken is thawed and only do 2-3 pieces at a time. (so the oil stays hot)

no, it's pretty small, can probably put around 6 pieces of chicken in at the most.

Keep a 99 cent can of 'French Fry Seasoning' handy, works good on almost anything that comes out of that fryer. In a pinch (heheh), use 'Seasoning Salt' or 'Garlic Salt'. Makes stuff like fries, onion rings, etc, taste extra awesome, just hit it as soon as you get them out of the fryer.

You're reminding me why I gained ten pounds last year. Must... resist... urge... to... fry...

So much tasty fried goodness. Had to work hard to lose the weight this year. Now the fryer only comes out on rare occasions.

like the Elfenix bacon idea, is there any other way to directly flavor the oil? Also, what kind of oil is best to use in a deep fryer? I'm looking for best taste regardless of health consequences as I don't plan on frying all that much...

Be careful, you might balloon up to the size of a blimp.
