The only thing I find sad about Ian McKellan being gay is that people like you have a problem with it. His being gay doesn't change that he is a great actor.

think about it more and remember that Magneto is also gay now too. That is to bad it ruined the whole character just knowing that he's a butt pirate.

Homophobe no... just tired of gay people and their agendas.

I know... it' s soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo unreasonable for them to force us to give them basic civil rights, the same economic protections the heteros enjoy, and to stop discriminating against, verbally harassing, beating and murdering them. And they ruin perfectly good movies with their extreme homoerotic portrayal of men in robes. I, for one, will be forced to think about hot and heavy man on man anal action during every moment of the LOTR movies. We all know the creator despises them and created them merely to test us

Of course, my comments should not be interpreted as honophobic -- I saw a gay person in a movie once but didn't walk out until near the end (after seeing the hot, scantily clad women dance, so don't worry I'm a REAL man).

I didn't know Ian Mckellen was gay until I saw a picture of him with his mid twenties bf 😱
He also plays Magneto in Xmen right?

From the looks of things, its totally acceptable to show distaste for homosexuals on this board, while its discriminatory to poke fun of people of different races. 😕

I agree. Both are equally unacceptable and show how weak their characters are, and how sad this board really is sometimes.

bfd. Who cares, the man is very open about his preference, he is active in the community. Let him live his life. He does a great job in LOTR and in Xmen, why should you care that he likes dudes?

what hole have u been in, he even played a gay old man opposite brendan fraiser in gods and monsters. it even won an oscar😛

hmm..yeah just read the title and comment on it ic....i still think he's a great actor...(i think i said this this in this thread many times...)

aye aye..like i said b4:

getting over it cuz it's been a day hehe ...i can't wait for the movies to come out ...it's just an initial reaction....and some people would have adverse reactions as wel...yeah i may have overreacted.....kinda like if u become a fan of a sports star.....and find something like that out...initial reaction would be of course one of that is at least "oh what the.."

and i c nothing wrong w/ that reaction....and yes he's still in my "cooool" list regardless of his private life

Wow, that's truly amazing you're distraught over this.

Who really cares? He's still a kewl guy and an awesome actor.

Attempted thread hijack : Does anybody have any good movie suggestions that he's in? I've seen LOTR and X-Men and he was really good in those but are there any other films of his that are worth mentioning? I'd like to see some of his other work.

He'd be really interesting to meet. I saw an interview with him and he just seems like one of those older people that has a million awesome stories to tell.

I think all out attacks on homophobes are nearly as bad as all out attacks on homosexuals...

Seriously, some people have trouble dealing with other people's sexuality. Why do you have to start hating him for it? I find it extremely distasteful that the second someone says anything even slightly bigoted or homophobic, he becomes a figure for attacks such as yours.

I have to say that I was mildly perturbed reading the original post but I'm more curious about why it matters to him.

So you're supposed to be forgiven because you thought to yourself, 'well, i GUESS he's still ok' ? I'm not saying that's what you did but that's how it comes out when you post things like this.

It's basically saying that you cannot accept that lifestyle but you somehow manage to cope with it.

And Woodchuck, how else are we supposed to instill tolerance into people? When the civil rights movement was happening back in the 60's, did people say, "Well, I really still don't care for them but I GUESS I can hide my disgust and live with them' ? Hell no. We have to get the message across somehow people.

I'm not saying this directed entirely at you DanTMWTMP but some of it definitely applies. The only way you can be tolerant is by hearing all sides of the story and by becoming aware.

ney woodchuck, i wasn't insulting u...u were attacking me for insulting ian...i'm sure a lot of us are a fan of his....just that i was being very very blunt w/ my initial post...yes matters like these today are very sensitive....and yeah my bad for posting no?..but why not post?...i'm still a fan of his and like i said b4, if ur a fan of micheal jordon and found out he was gay, of course u would react somehow to it....that's just how i felt...maybe i was raised from around a fundamental christian relatives..(i'm agnostic @ the moment)

but yes i agree w/ agnitrate totally...i may have myself not accepted gay people totally but hey...we all have to sometime eh?...

There's a fantastic episode of south park called "The Death Camp of Tolerance" which is definitely worth watching...

You talk about "Instilling Tolerance."
Is it right for you to be intolerant of intolerant people?
"Well, I really still don't care for them but I GUESS I can hide my disgust and live with them"
Isn't the definition of tolerance to put up with something you still don't agree with? Acceptance is what you're saying should happen. Tolerance is fine as far as I'm concerned. I'm cool with DanTMWTMP being mildly shocked to that find Ian McKellen is gay. I was quite surprised myself. As long as it's not biasing him against the actor (which it clearly isn't) then it's fine.

BTW, nothing I said was meant to be an attack on you, and I apoligise if it came across that way.

oh, wow, he's gay, this should not detract from the fact that HE IS HUMAN, like everyone else, and yes humans have differences. As long as these differences do not hurt anyone why should we be so concerned? We should be more concerned with the real problems in the world such as aggression and hunger.
