So I just finished Fear 1 for the fourth time

I played it through twice I believe on my crappy 6600 AGP. I picked up the full pack on steam over the holiday sales, but haven't had a chance to play FEAR 2 yet. You've just inspired me to give it a try.

Your 8600 GT ran it that fast? At what res? What was your minimum fps?

I don't remember my 7800 GT or 8800 320 getting that high, but I could be hazy I guess.

I was going off the fact that I read somewhere that consoles gpu muscle is somewhere around the 7800 GT, and my 7800 GT sure couldn't max out everything without stutter.

you can see my old post on Hardforum here. the 8600gt got a bad rep at launch but it was the crappy release drivers that were the problem. I'd count the original FEAR as one of the finest FPS' I've played. Thoroughly enjoyable, wooooonderful firefights, and some really lovely particles and lighting.

Couldn't agree more. I loved the entire franchise.

Agree with the above. It was a very satisfying game to play. F.E.A.R Combat was great while it lasted too. The frenetic pace would tire me out after a few hours but i'd be laughing the whole time. Kicking people as they appeared around corners took some timing but was hilarious!

Hehe remember when i was playing SS2.
Finished the game for about 4-5 times. Always a fun shooter for me

One of my favorite FPS's. One of the last shooters to really feel like a PC game. Brilliant move to make all ammo pickups actual weapons, it makes the weapon slot mechanic work well.

I usually go with shotgun, particle weapon and Repeater/Rocket, exchanging the shotgun for Vulcan in the expansions, and adding the laser carbine and lightning gun to the 3rd slot rotation.

I'm definitely not trying to be argumentative here, I'm just really curious how well a current console would run the PC version of FEAR fully maxed out at a high res (1680x1050 or above).

You mean maxed out at 720p, right? Because they wouldn't bother trying to run it any higher than that.

When you sit a few feet back, its amazing how good 720p can look. And its amazing how I can see texturing issues with my nose a few inches away from my 20" 1080p computer monitor (my wife gives me grief about this, I keep leaning in closer the longer I play... )
