Right after I did it, I regretted it and canceled it today. I heard too many horror stories regarding canceling even after the contract is over. I mailed them a cancellation notice and called it in and they did it instantly. So I'm not sure if it went through.....I don't wanna get a bill later for $1400 bucks

So do you guys feel like it's worth it? It was $37 dollars a month and I would go every day. Since I'm in Irvine for the next 5 months without knowing anyone here, it was a nice way to meet people after work. I think I'll get my own set of free weights here and workout + run on my own.

good job.

i have been going to bally's for the past 4 years or so.

if i didn't get amemberships so damn cheap and less than a mile from where I live, I would not be there at all. I pay for a full year up front with no contract. This past year it was only like $140 I believe, although it's going up every year.

And their contracts are a HHHUUGGGEEE pain in the ass to get out of. My sisters boyfriend moved 50 miles from where he used to live and he tried to cancel his. They said that since he still lived within what I think was a 100 mile radius that he could not cancel it. After jumping thorugh hoops he ended up using his parents address which is like 200 miles away and they finally let him cancel it early.

When in college I would go to bally's on some student deal for the summer while I couldn't use the one on campus. It was like $34 down, then $34/mo for 3 months, total was like $140 or so.

The 3rd summer in a row I went to do it, they were like "well in our system it says you can either do your student deal, or you can get a full year membership for $108."

I was like gee ... let me think. 3 months for $140, or 12 months for $108. I think I'll take the 2nd option heh.

And since then, every January they send me a mail sayin "renew for $160 for 1 year! this is a one time offer so act fast!"

Then I'll wait till february and get one that says "renew for $150 for 1 year! this is a one time offer so act fast!"

And then every month it goes down until my last month (which expires in April) is up, and it's usually around $110. However this past year they upped all of the prices on these mails that I got.

yeah..thats something you should think about BEFORE signing a damn contract.

qft..lesson learned

Well it didn't seem like I would have problems canceling when I was talking to the "salesmen". I asked him repeatedly if canceling was difficult if I went back to school and etc. He said it'd be fine. I talked to my friend previously who had a membership there, and she didn't mention to me anything about how they were dicks until after I signed up. Then I searched online and found like a billion testimonial reviews of them screwing people over.

At first I just wanted a place to workout and meet people. So I was like, eh, can't be that bad even if they do give me trouble. Then I thought about it last night and after awhile i was like, yeah, I really don't want this to bite me in the ass later.

Three year contract?

Yeah seriously I don't know what I was thinking.

To Purebeast. I was about to do that student deal! But i figured I would want to go to the gym when i was at home in san jose too. So I opted for the one that costed about the same. How was it canceling the student one when it was up?

I also signed for a three year contract march of last year and all I have to pay is 17 a month. i don't understand how they price things. I have a friend that pays 22 a month and another one who pays 27 a month.

Maybe they added in different options? I know they're 5 bucks each.

My Bally's fee is $28 month to month now since I was able to talk them down to a 1-year contract last year. I don't particularly like Bally's, but I need a chain as I travel a lot in the fall through spring.

$37 is very steep considering 24hr can be had for $24/month on a short term contract, I think under $20 for a longer term period.
