My 5 year old has been pestering me for days to install the free Trial version of WoW we got in another game I had bought. I had no interest in WoW because I dont like a per month fee associated with my games. But I figured that the hell. So I installed it, whipped up a Human Warrior and proceeded on my way.

Not a bad game really. I dont see it being as addictive (To me) as DoD and I'm not sure if its worth 15 a month, but on the whole I was pleasantly suprised.

My son though loves it. He started a Orc Hunter, worked up to 5th level, liked my Human so started a Human Paladin too.

I think I might keep it and just suck it up with the monthly costs.

WoW sucks, hard. I fail to see how anyone can get addicted to a game with no skill, minimal interaction, hours upon hours of literally doing nothing, and an immensely lame 'community'

My son doesnt get addicted to a game.
Hes addicted to "games".

Sadly, thats my fault. He still does quite a bit of other things though, I try to make him keep a balance of games and other activities.

5 is too young for a mmorpg. not necessarily because of the addiction angle, but for the community. does he even understand what he is supposed to do?

ehh ... I had some fun with WoW, but it got to be kinda like a second job so I stopped playing for a bit. It seemed like I was running MC, BWL, and AQ40 every friggin week.

It is a fun game if you play it with friends, but people get way too sucked into raiding 30+ hours per week. Also .. "farming" for gold sucks. I don't mind games having some sort of a challenge that you need to beat to get a reward, but mindless farming is only challenging to sleep schedules.

My favorite parts of the game are probably just leveling up new toons and screwing around in the battlegrounds.

It's been over a week since I've logged in, and when I do opt to log in again, I'm going to limit my play time. I have 3 60s, and yet I still have a level 45 mage and 31 hunter that I would like to level to 60 eventually as well.

Somewhat. Far as hes concerned, he runs around and kills bad guys.

Its more of a hack n slash versus RP for him. :D

My best friend has been addicted to that game for the last 2 years or so since it came out. I barely see him anymore. He never comes out of his cave. Hes 22 and working as a security guard 32 hours a week. Hasn't finished Jr. College. All he does is WoW.

You're going to have to monitor him when he plays, some of the general chat dialogues are not suitable for young children

if i got into a match with a 5 year old on xbox live street fighter 2, i dont know if i would kick his arse or let him win. winning would make me feel bad, losing would hurt my rankings. disconnecting gets me a loss. oh the dilemma.

Remind me again how ATOT is any different.

Sorry, OP. ATOT is typically the wrong place to bring up any MMORPG.

These guys are too busy spending $45/month to download porn, $60/month to watch Fear Factor and other crap television shows, $80/month to text message their roomates on their cells, $18/month to rent 6-month-old movies, etc to be able to pay $15/month for a silly game. I mean, Gosh! What a waste of money!

My hobbies:
Swimming
Reading (Scifi/Fantasy/Horror)
Weight Lifting
Gaming (Unreal Tournament 2004 & Warcraft 3)

and MMO hater in general, the games do not enrich you in any way and can't hardly be called games since they require no skill, only time.

Also the monthly fee is such a farce it's ridiculous.
