So I haven't played Counter Strike in 2 years... I'm now confused

So I installed Half Life on my new computer. I'm now downloading the 1.0.0.9 to 1.1.1.0 patch (80+mb). I then cruise over to counter-strike.net and get linked to something called Steam.

What is Steam?

steam is now the backbone of half-life and its mods. in order to play the newest versions of the games you need to run them through steam.

The New Distrubition method for Valve games, mods, and patches. Was hella buggy at first and sort of still is buggy. It'll only get better though.

no worries, cs is more n00b-friendly now than it has ever been

while on the subject, is there a better way to look for a server than just browsing inside the CS window?

but there are still more servers on won!

but 1.6 has some changes!!

so it's better to have both!!! and decide which you like better~! or keep both!@!!@~~!

I'm doing good, haven't played in almost .......god 5 months now

Ahhhh...another member w/ CS withdrawl! 😉

Have you played BF 1942 online yet?

Steam is a good conncept, but it is buggy as hell and creates a single point of failure. When Steam goes down (which it DOES), nobody in the world can play HL mods. Also, you can't play ma pure LAN game anymore, you MUST verify through Steam.

Steam distributes Half-Life game content.

You download the Steam client, create an account using your Half-Life CD-KEY, and install whatever games you want (CS, DoD, TFC, etc.).
Then you play through the Steam client.

It's very simple. I like it.

Call of Duty has taken a small fraction of my online gaming time, which is still 85% CS 1.5, and 10% CS 1.6 😱

Obviously, your hack for the 1.5 version makes it worth your time to cheat or you wouldn't bother with two installations.

Cheaters like this guy are why CS is dying. People want to blame Steam but as all cheaters know, when your version of the game gets upgraded you gotta find new cheats. 😀 Cheaters hate steam for making their cheats obsolete.

I wish I was kidding. Tell me I don't know how this online gaming stuff works.

Right, only the people who cheat would want to play the old version of CS still.

There wasn't any hack to keep 1.5 running, there should be an option to not delete your old files when you install CS 1.6.

I guess I must be an ultra sick bastage cheater since I have the rolled back version of beta 5 and beta 6 on my machine still.

Many ppl have complained how terrible it is... But personally, I like it..... U can switch in/out of game to Windows so much easier.... The interface is a lot more cleaner too...

I just played a game of CS yesterday for about an hour... havent played it for several months.. since June? anyways... I still think 1.6 sucks and steam is worthless.

🙂

and to the guy saying someone that plays the old 1.5 is cheating... I bet your that guy in the game that yells CHEATER! haX!! omg!! haX!!

The only people who bitch and complain non stop about hackers are the people who lack any and all skill like Crazyfool. See the problem is he can't get a kill so he screams "omg he's using aimbots" every 30 seconds, instead of actually learning the game.

It's people like this why CS is dying. People want to blame everything on cheaters, but we all know you're just an OGL nubbie who can't get a kill.

I wish I was kidding. Tell me I can't spot a nub in this forum.

ColumbusGaming.com has everything you need. Goto Files and download the Half_Life_v1110.exe and Steam_Installer.exe.
