i got a free computer from work. the psu had failed, so i popped in a spare psu i had at home, and its up and running.

its got a celeron 1.3, 512 sd-ram, and a older agp gigabyte motherboard.

im wondering if this thing will overclock at all, ive yet to try, but im curious.
i remember having a celeron 366 that i overclocked to 550, then i remember having a 566 celeron II that i overclocked to 850mhz (later 1ghz with better cooling!).

im wondering how good or bad these celerons are for overclocking.

What is the model and chipset of the gigabyte motherboard?

If your chip is good, it should be able to do 1733MHz with a 133MHz FSB. A slight voltage increase may be necessary.

Not that easy on a 1.3 Celeron. The much better chip would be the 1.1 which did 1.46 if I recall with a mild frontside bus bump. Obviously, the better the cooling the better the chances, but the chip architecture isn't easy at all to get to 1.7+

That has happened, but is extremely rare. The 1.0A and 1.1A were mostly good for 1.33GHz and 1.46GHz, but the 1.2 wasn't universally able to do 1.6GHz.

BTW, rule of thumb is that all chips of a certain process has the capability to be overclocked to roughly match the fastest "official" chip of that process. In the Tualatin Celeron case, 1.4GHz was the fastest.
