Should I jump on this? It's 279 shipped. NIB

I don't have SLI capability, but I imagine the prices are going to drop substantially for the 260/280, and I'm not entirely positive, but I think they will run alot cooler than a GX2...thoughts?

I forgot about that. I guess he is the all-knowing authority on 9800GX2 cards. Maybe it is just an illusion that my card has been working great since I got it.

If you trust the vendor then yes, just yes.

Look at the benchmarks in the 48xx review thread at anandtech.com.

I have you're same power supply for my system with the GX2 and you will have no problems with it. If you can't SLI and aren't thinking of crossfire for the 4800's then it is a great choice especially for that price. It's basically sli'ed 8800GTS 512's. If you have the upgrade itch, pull the trigger.

I like mine; it does the job well and is still very close to being the fastest card available at 1900x1200 and below.

But you bought yours before the new gen cards came out and all the idiot kids out there started sending their GX2s back to the stores, yes?

I think that fact that it's nib is a big deal here. $279 for that card is a fantastic deal right now imho. it is significantly faster than 4870 and it costs less. 'nuff said.

eVGA warranty cover overclocking? I'd like to get it up to the SSC edition as this is a vanilla version

They cover overclocking and just about anything else short of volt mods or nonstandard bios flashing.

evga is great in this area, too bad ati has no comparable board partners. as mentioned, anything short of volt-mods or bios flashes is cool with them.

Any manufacturer will cover overclocking in their warranty -- just don't tell them you did it, and they'll never know. I don't see why this is a selling point for some people.

he is refering to the fact that everyone is sending their GX2 for a refund now... so newegg, frys, bestbuy, etc are repacking them and selling as new in box, but they are clearly used. serial registered already with manufacturer, defects, etc...

anyways... @300$ I wouldn't say it is a good deal. A power hog, extra bugs, microstutter, waiting for driver support for your game, inefficient scaling except for 2560x1600 resolution...
I would get it at 200$. Not 300$.

Thanks for all your replies.

I decided too much controversy on this issue, I ended up buying a new sapphire 4870 for 199 shipped..I might get another sometime soon but it should be a good upgrade from my 8800GT. Even though I have 16x/4x I could always add another for a boost.

the 4870 go for 300$... if you got it for 200$ that is an AWESOME deal and I would love to hear where you got it :)
