So i have never played TES IV Oblivion, and am modding it.

Because the game seems great until you walk outside of the sewers for the first time, looks like COD Black Ops 3 on LOW.

So i am installing a butt load of graphics mods, will post my finidings and experience :)

It's a PS3/Xbox 360 launch generation game, and most people were still playing PS2s at that point. Yes it's gonna look dated.

MASSIVE improvements but not anything like i want it to be, i also noticed that my FPS has become uncapped even with Vsync on.. odd.

Game don't even function anymore, ahh well end of that.
Oblivion works fine still. And of course a 9 year old game (released in 2006) on High / Ultra is going to look like a 2015 game on Low. It can still look good modded though, but modding does need a lot of patience (as does Skyrim & Morrowind):-

- Install Core game
- Install Expansion pack (Shivering Isles) + DLC
- Install official patches

Start modding:-
- Unofficial patches (inc SI & DLC)
- Darnified UI
- HD texture pack (Quarl's?)
- Unique landscapes mods (Aspen Wood, Cheydinhal Falls, etc)
- Better water
- Brighter torches
- Darker nights & dungeons
- Clocks Of Cyrodiil
- No more annoying comments
- Natural habitat & natural vegetation
- NPC levelling mod
- Passive / more random behaved wildlife, etc
- Whatever else catches your eye / suits your style of play

Elder Scrolls games are not for the impatient, and I'm not even talking about playing them, but merely getting them setup just right.

Well i installed an ENB and lost all water from the game until i am actually in the water..
It's best to leave the ENB stuff till last. Darnified UI should be at least one critical mod you install as it actually makes the inventory usable if you're playing up close with a keyb + mouse and don't want size 28 font lines taking twice as long to scroll through. Same for SkyUI for Skyrim.

I tried it but just says some script error when installing with Nexus.

Distant scenery looked really bad even when the game launched. I remember being disappointed when stepping out of the sewers for the first time. It was one of the first things to get modded.

Also make sure to mod the player leveling system on Oblivian, otherwise it is just ridiculous.

Oblivion had the most amazing mod, a ride and flyable dragon that you could manually control. I had high hopes for an even more amazing mod with Skyrim's focus on Dragons, but it never happened (at least not as good).

I totally agree. After the release of Skyrim, I quit playing Oblivion. Maybe I will go back one day...

That mod was by SaidenStorm. I'm pretty sure he stopped modding half way through Fallout 3. He may even have gotten a job in the industry like Oscuro did.

Too many things you can screw up modding games. If something as simple as the load order is not correct, your game can be massively unstable and glitchy. But all of the kinks should be worked out with Oblivion modding by now. I'd find a recommended pack (combination of mods) that are confirmed to work together and be stable. They'll tell you the load order for the mods, so you just download and go. People do ENB packs with skyrim that way as well.

Played it a year or two ago on Windows 8. Worked well and I thought it looked decent. I used to be concerned with graphics when I was younger but now I don't care much anymore. Since games were made for the Xbox 360 generation, they look good enough.

;)

Really liked Oblivian...Graphics are not that bad IMO unless graphics are the main reason someone has for buying/playing a game. I used OBM and installed a few mods with no problems. Played this game about 2 yrs ago.

I remember thinking that Oblivion was gorgeous when I played it for the first time.

But those character models...ugh. Nothing like walking into a beautiful church and the sense of immersion getting ruined by some NPC with 3 ill-animated polygons for a face coming up to talk to you.
