That's frankly, a retarded way of looking at it. However, the comment does have some merit.

LOL, 4 people have already come in and stomped on this guy's comment within two pages.

I know a guy who's got 50k in JUST credit card debt (so I'm not even counting the mortgage on his home, etc.) and he just bought a 3k LCD HDTV and a 400 buck phone. Some people are just retarded. When I was younger, my dad beat fiscal responsibility into my head, and while I have spent more than I should sometimes I've never paid a dime in interest on my credit card bill, been late on the rent, etc.

I just did a google for Nikon D80 and the first result I got was $399.00.

Nobody with a brain pays full price at Best Buy. The only time you go in there is when you KNOW they have a good deal on somthing, which is rare.

Though I will say that wedding photography is a good career (assuming you know what the hell you are doing).
My aunt does it and makes excellent money.

Ever tried getting married? Its almost impossible to find all the stuff you need. People in that industry are in high demand.
Finding a place to do it.
Catering.
Photos.
Music.
Dress, makeup, hair.

All these things are in short supply, and the people who provide them do quite well for themselves.

Having said that:
If the lady is asking you basic questions about photography I think its safe to assume she will have no idea how to put together a proper wedding portfolio.
She will bomb, horribly.

Oh yes, I know all about the short supply/high demand of wedding services....
<----- engaged and planning a wedding....

I told her she could get the Nikon D80 cheaper online too. I did a quick search and found it cheaper on newegg, told her it was a very reputable site and just for the first site I checked. Her response "ah well its just easier to go into the store and get it, and I dont have internet yet so I can't order it.

what the hell are you talking about tfinch? My co-worker talks to me about these things. I made an observation that she was ignorant with her finances and I posted on ATOT because I thought it would make for a good discussion about how irresponsible most people are. Is that being a busybody? If so to answer your original question.....

Because I fucking want to. Deal with it bitch.

We don't use the Karl Marx E-Z Economics book here.
The "Free Market" isn't a zero sum game.
Money only has value because we all agree that it does.
Cash has no value in an Apple Store if you're trying to buy an I-phone.
Cash has a premium value to a Realtor.

So I work at a dead-end retail sales commission job. No one will make any real money working here, unless you move up in the company. Most smart people use this job as a means to an end, personally to get me through school. There are a few people who are in their 30's though and obviously will never go anyway.

This particular girl has been working here for 6ish years. She will never be a manager, that much is obvious. But here's where the stupid comes in. This lady is in debt about 30k from what I understand. She has a kid and a boyfriend of like 5 years, this guy is a dead beat. Barely works a full time job, sometimes. He goes from job to job. Anyways, she's not making any headway on her debt and she basically can barely pay off the interest in the debt as well as living expenses each month. Whatever, thats not the worst part.

She has this idea that she wants to be a wedding photographer/dj. She actually wants to have her boyfriend do the Dj part. She has it all figured out because photographers make "$1500" minimum and DJ's another "$1000 minimum". So she's just going to up and do that and get out of debt. Lately she's been talking about it. Asking me about cameras (I used to sell them). She tells me she wants a wireless printer thats mobile. I tell her to get wedding quality pictures she won't be able to buy a mobile wireless printer at best buy for $200 bucks. I suggest maybe looking into a printing service initially to get going. She says, "oh like walmart?" Suffice to say she doesn't know what the hell she is doing. She's in waaaaay over her head.

So today I get to work and she starts talking to me. Apparently she went out and bought some DJ/speaker equipment. Yep, she just spent $5000 on her BoA credit card. It has a lower interest rate than some of her others so its a good deal.....

What the fuck is wrong with people? $30,000 in debt, not making any headway. No idea what the hell she is going to do with a business and she goes and blows $5,000 on shit she probably can't even use. There is more to come I'm sure. She was talking about buying a Nikon D80 (coworkers suggestion) from BB for like $1500 (with lens).

Its no wonder people are in debt so much and going into bankruptcy. No one has a fucking brain.

Well, first let me say that I understand and completely agree with what you are saying.

That said, she may not be the brightest bulb in the pack when it comes to financial matters, but you do have to give her credit for wanting to strike out on her own and start her own business.....there are countless stories just like her of people who stated below nothing and made something of themselves, and were very successful.

You never know until you try, and how many people have the means the knowledge and the ability but lack the courage to actually try to start their own business?

It's kinda like having kids....if you wait until you are "ready" you will never have kids because you are never truly "ready".

Yeah, but most people know how sex works before trying to have kids...

Why the hell would this chick need a wireless printer for wedding photos? She obviously doesn't know what she's talking about, and she's jumping headfirst into something she not only knows diddly squat about, SHE'S SHIT BROKE.

It takes balls to go and start a business. Everyone has an idea, but nobody wants to act.

Good thing to comment on.

We all want to try....not everyone will be successful I have tried two small businesses myself. I still have one, but it is only part time. It is very tough to get things going. Not everyone wants to work for the corporate taskamaster and their bullshit.

How about you OP, instead of mocking and criticizing her, help her out...give her some suggestions, or a little assistance...

God forbid we help each other out... Lets just keep sucking the wind from peoples sails and discourage them.

She may not be a brain surgeon or going to college such as yourself to do something...but it appears she has a big heart..and want to do good. She is at least trying.

Be helpful

i'm looking forward to see what the pics are going to look like with a D80/18-135 3.5 lense with only the basic flash!

I dont even want to do weddings cause it's a hell of a lot of work and if things go wrong... they can sue you for not providing pics up to what they were expecting.

I'll stick with sports :)
