We talk every few weeks, and in the most recent conversation she tells me that she was selling a diamond ring on ebay, starting price $3700. She received an email soon after the start from someone offering to buy it for $4300 if she would end the auction. She agreed, ended the auction, and he sent her an email with the credit card number, she charged the card through the retail store that her mother and her own. When she told me the story, she had the ring packaged and was on her way to Fedex to send it off to SINGAPORE!! I started laughing and told her to call master-card and check the billing address of the credit card and compare it to the address where she was going to ship the ring. Of course the addresses were different and the billing address was in the states.

I told her, that since I saved her from loosing her ring to the scam, when she sold it I deserved a 50% cut of the sale price. :D She does not agree.

What do you think?

Edit: I guess it wasn't clear, I was joking about the 50% reward

Human stupidity never ceases to amuse me.
Sell a diamond ring over Ebay to someone who claims to be in Singapore... 1337 skillz abound.

To hell with doing something nice for somebody... for the sake of just being nice or a friend.

Everybody has their fricken hand out these days.

Man, now there's true friendship for you!

"Hey, I did something nice for you! PAY THE HELL UP!

You deserve nothing, and the fact that you even asked is absurd.

I realized the 50% off thing was a joke (why would you coincidently be in the market for a diamond ring?), but I think the poll threw some people off.

Good work with stopping her. I swear, no one should do anything computer related without A. being a computer geek or B. having consulted with a computer geek.

I dunno, but I'd cut you in for saving my ass. Maybe not 50% but I'd definitely hook you up.

Let me know if you ever plan on ebaying a diamond ring

Ghostman:

She is a good friend of mine, so I had to tease her about almost loosing the ring. The 50% reward was part of me joking with her.

If the poll would have cam out with "Yes" on top, I could have shown it to her and continued with "see all the other computer nerds think I should get the cash!

I would never have taken any money, though.

She knew I was joking, I was laughing- it just doesn't translate well to the interweb

Hmmmm..... selling a $3700 ring on ebay?? I'm guessing it was her wedding/engagement ring...

Maybe as a reward, instead of the 50% you were joking about, you should get a little... you know..

PICS!
