Seriously, would you have busted out a camera and taken a picture with her while she was having dinner at one of the finest restaurants in LA?

Uhh ... Yes? 😛

Seriously, I would have asked :cookie:her for a pic if I saw her. She's a celebrity I'm sure she's used to that. And if she completely blew you off ... who cares? You aren't going to see her again.

I wouldn't exactly say that...I have a few connections in entertainment. In fact she dated the coworker for a short while (i think during Fantastic 4) of one of the friends at the dinner (William Morris Agency). BTW I am not saying I have a chance in hell in dating her.

Cool, now I can tell people that someone I "know" on the internet has a friend whose co-worker dated Jessica Alba. The guys at work will be SOOoooo jealous!

Interesting. People eat meat without wine.

Who cares? 😕 Some people don't like wine.

Yeah, I wasn't ironic. I think it really is interesting. I'm not criticizing at all.

I was just thinking how I associate big meat-based dinners with wine, while the OP for example drank martini with his steak.

It' s a cultural think: I grew up spending a lot of time in places where they make wine, so I don't associate wine with luxury. In fact I associate wine with old people drinking a glass while playing cards and talking about sports.

I notice how the wine industry is marketing wine as a luxury product here in the US (but also increasingly so also in Europe) and I think it's a shame.

I'm a server and I can say that the tip is OK, not great but definately not CHEAP.
Listen, most fine dining restaurant, if they thought that 20% tips were warranted, they would have just included in there.
If it was me, yeah I would tip 20%+ for fine dining service but I wouldn't say anything over 15% CHEAP.
It was 16.25% to be exact.

What sort of restaurant do you work in, if you don't mind my asking?

I work in one of the restaurant at Disney.
Its called Ohana at the Polynesian resort.
People that have been to Disney might have eating there before. Its very popular.

Sometimes when I give outstanding service, I do expect(ok, expect is too harsh. I HOPE for) 20% but if its 15%...CHEAP isn't the first word that comes to my mind.

15% is fine OP, most of these fools telling you otherwise probably don't drop $500 for a meal on a monthly basis.

You know that the waiter/waitress who receives that tip has to share a portion with bussers, hosts, and bartenders, right?

Edit: Final official tally $505.50 Receipt

nice tip for "amazing" service

Oh gawd not this again...we paid freaking $16% tip on a $400+ bill...

ugh, should have left out tip.

WHICH IS A SH!TTTY ****** TIP. Especially at a restaurant LIKE THAT. Dude, listen, if I go over to Shula's and spend 200 dollars and get amazing service you can bet your ass I'm going to tip 70-80 bucks.

This is not Applebee's. Again, act like you've been there.

Do you really want to turn this into a tip thread again?

Again, you made ANOTHER brag thread about eating out. Then, when you tip extremely cheap, you expect no one to say anything. Perhaps if you want to brag about the fact dinner check then you shouldn't look like a couple of 16 year kids out for their first big meal, or a couple in their 70's that barely believe in tipping. You know the system, you said you had fantastic service, and then you pretty much stiff them.

15% might be slightly acceptable at Applebee's, but not at Wolfgang Puck's. You just look like a cheap ass or an immature kid when you get an expensive meal and don't take care of your server. If you cannot afford to tip then do NOT go.

HE JUST GAVE HIM 66 ****** DOLLARS!

If a waiter at Applebees provided great service and had brought in the same amount of food and drinks (assuming it is available) at Applebees, the OP's 15% tip would be considered sufficient.

The waiter at Wolfgang's and Applebees did the same amout of service but the pricing of items skews the comparison.

I really don't see why 15% at Wolfgang's is something to frown about.

Sh|t, not everyone is frickin' loaded.

You did fine, OP.

There is a huge difference and a reason why someone works at Applebees vs. Wolfgangs.

Isn't 15% standard for good service?

What should he have tipped? 25%?
fvck that, apparently it's 125% now

Frankly, I'm glad that I can enjoy a $5 meal at KFC. If I had to spend $100 on a meal to really enjoy it, I'd be broke. 😉

I'm not saying that only a $100 dinner tastes good, it's that some people can appreciate the difference between an Outback and a gourmet restaurant. For this guy to say essentially that the only time you should spend $100 on a meal is if you're super loaded is just silly... you do it every once in a while if it's worth it to you. To me, it is. To some people, spending $100 on a bottle of wine is worth it. For me? Nope, I don't have the palette. At least not right now. But I understand.

That wasn't a bad price for the Chimay considering the price of the Amstel, & where you are. I think a little guy is $5, & a regular-sized bottle is $11.

Voolfgang Pock. That's how it's pronounced. That was fun....

OP: Your receipt says you only paid $52 for Kansas City. I bow to your inarguable prowess in real estate dealings.

Anyone else get the feeling the OP posted just to brag about where he ate?

I mean who sees jeXXXica alba and doesnt TRY to get a pic on their phone or just blatantly ask for one.

pfft!

I didnt read all 10 pages but if there is a pic on here Im gonna feel pretty stupid lol.

I had the steak gorgonzola at Olive Garden Wednesday night. $15 and it kicks ass. Cheesy, meaty, perfect. My iced tea glass was never empty. She got a nice tip.

I thought I'd just like to share I went to Wolfgang Puck's Cut restaurant (inside the Beverly Wilshire) last night and sat next to Jessica Alba. She was there with a large white lady (mother or manager?).

Yes, she is absolutely gorgeous in real life. She looks like the girl next door who is super hot.

That restaurant is a ridiculous place. Every female waitress/hostess was borderline supermodel (and made you feel like you're the shvt), and every guy in there had a bombshell date. There was a party full of rich men in their 50s-60s all of whom each had a porn-star quality date. Mastro's does not compare.

As for the food...cheese bread was amazing, appetizer was awesome (maple glazed pork belly), but the steak was a bit dry (20 oz ribeye). The service was absolutely amazing. The server/customer ratio must have been 1:2.

The bill for four of us came out to $505.50, but I left satisfied at the experience.

Mmmmmm............steak tartare.......YUMMY!

The waitstaff at Wolfgang's is better taken care of because the meals are expensive enough that 15% of a huge bill is more than sufficient tip.

Always had a problem with a percentage based tip system. If a meal costs me $500 a person because I wanted white truffles, is an $80 tip insufficient? they aren't doing any additional work. what if I go in a restaurant and only order $1000 bottle of wine for myself, is a $150 tip for a waiter who uncorks it for me insufficient?

What better service the Wolfgang waiters give compared to Applebee service is already covered by the tip amount being substantially more. Example : meal at applebee costs $20, I tip $3. Meal at Wolfgang's cost $100, I tip $15. The service at Wolfgang's is better and thats why they get 5x more money than the applebee servers. But to say that they deserve a higher percentage is ludicrous.

BINGO!

...End of thread.

I guarantee you that when the server looked at the tip they were disappointed. It is obvious that part of the reason you didn't leave 20% was because you thought 15% was "good enough." If you are going to go to a place like that, take care of the server and give them the extra 5%. People like you are so naive about the service industry and seem to think that these servers are getting rich or something. That server probably only saw about 60% of your lame $66 dollar tip. And these people that think that servers at applebee's are the same as any other place are just ignorant. A server at a restaurant like that is probably doing things you don't even realize to make your dining experience as good as it can be. The beef dish was "dry?" Yeah, that really sounds like the servers fault. If you woulda told them they probably would have bent over backwards to fix it for you. But you probably just took the oppurtunity to shave $ off the tip. If you get great service, then tip 20% and don't be a douche.
