BEFORE all you flamers come and whine "but a civic can't go fast" "it's still a fvcking civic" "a turd is still a turd" "i'd rather drive my mommybox grocery getter" "my minivan can beat that" "he should've gotten a 1st gen dsm awd turbo and modded that and had a much faster car" "a 5.0 is almost faster than that stock" "damn imports, they'll never be fast" etc, etc, etc... be thankful that he didn't just slap on a bunch of stickers, a wing, 19" wheels, carbon fiber hood, a can of nitrous that's actually a sub, neon lights under the car, and a big fart tip. i mean, isn't that what you guys usually give sh!t about when people "rice out" their cars???

bottom line, it's his car to do with as he wishes, and all the flaming online isn't going to change that. I understand everyone has their own opinions and stuff, but open your eyes... not only is this civic nicely done, it's a RARE civic... granted it's still a fwd pos, it's a fwd pos that's pushing 300 ponies... 300 ponies on a 2600~2700 pound car can beat a lot of cars out their on the street... i don't care what you guys say, not everyone goes driving around awd turbo dsms and modded to sh!t 5.0 mustangs out there...

I could put an "I take it in the ass" bumper sticker on my car, and if I posted about it here I would expect to be flamed because it is ludicrous. If you have that kind of money, you'd have to be incompetant to spend it on a Civic and not a nicer car, whether you want speed or anything else.

but that sticker would give you mad horsepower and speed!

The civic would be fine with boost. I have seen stock Magnum neon engines run 15 PSI before they let go more than a year later. and that's being raced. not driven lightly. if you do it the right way it will run fine. for a long time. (internals of course) also, saying a civic is not meant to be fast is kinda dumb.. any car can go fast. put an SR20DET into a Datsun 510. not meant to go fast, but it does now!! and it's SWEET. I admire drivers of fast civics. the ricey slow ones are crap sure, but the done up fast Civics are sweet. there was a guy in town here with a 2000 SI turbo (automatic) (Canadian SI) and he ran 13.3 (yes, i saw the run) in that car. that is NOT slow, and they can go alot faster. I merely hate it when people with Supras think they have race cars and that other done up cars shoudn't be allowed to compete. retarded.

I don't think my car is a race car, and I don't race it. It is a very solid, comfortable, nice looking, great handling, excellently performing car with a lot of extras that I got a good deal on, but it's not a race car. It accomplishes its purpose.

Any car that you boost increases the stress on the motor, and unlike a Supra whose internals were designed to handle boost pressure, the civic will succumb to failure sooner because it was not designed for that. The engineers had fuel economy in mind, not power. Despite what your ricer buddies say, you cannot deny the physical principal that converting a car to FI lowers it's life expectancy. Now why do that to a car designed to run a long time? That is self defeating.

people don't care if it adds stress. they'll fix it if it breaks. to some people it's part of the fun.

that argument works... IF the turbo isn't done right... granted a single turbo will add stress on any motor, supra, rx7, whatever... but if you build the internals well, it will not succumb to failure any sooner than another turbo'd car... proper tuning does wonders

there you go.. so, BatmanNate, keep that in mind. not everyone throws a turbo on their stock engine and then blows it up soon after.
people with the money and knowledge do it right.

Which brings me right back to the point I made earlier in the thread that you seemed to have missed. With the money it takes to modify the internals and the drivetrain on a honda civic to run that kinda of boosted setup reliably, you could afford a MUCH nicer car. Thanks for playing.

You are missing the point. ricer != power. Ricer = way overdone exterior. IMHO a 300 HP civic is not a ricer. it was not the best of decisions, but it is not a ricer.

dude it's the truth.. your argument is that "they shouldn't do this cause it's hard on the engine" but when people do it right, it's really not.. besides.. whats the big deal? top fuel engine has to be rebuilt after every race... so what do you have to say about that? some poeple like making lots of power, and it something goes wrong, opportunity to improve. that's how i'd take it too!!!!
you're just a reliability freak and that's fine... but the argument about it being too stressful = *shrugs*

My family owned a V6 Honda Accord that I learned to drive on.

I still don't feel safe in a Civic.

I merely hate it when people with Supras think they have race cars and that other done up cars shoudn't be allowed to compete. retarded.

How about this then. I previously owned a 2000 Turboed Civic Si, with which I managed to put 230 horses to the wheels, and run a best 1/4 time of 12.9. I sold that last year and bought my neighbors 97 Supra TT. The Supra is putting down around 420 to the wheels, and I've managed a best time of 12.1 in the 1/4. Now that you can see that I'm not biased, and I'm not just "one of those Supra guys," let me tell you that Civic's are slow. It doesn't matter what they run in the 1/4 mile, they will always feel slow. I wish I had not made the mistake of putting over 7 G's in my car, as I would have that money now to mod my Supra, a car that is worth modding, and a car that can go fast, a car that feels fast. I don't care if people mod their Civic, in fact I'll encourage it. Just don't go bragging about how you have a fast Civic, because I'll laugh at you for the money you wasted.

Dude, my argument was that a Civic is not a race car. The amount of money neccesary to build the motor/drivetrain properly to handle that kind of power would be better spent on a car that is designed for that purpose, not one that is designed to be an economy car. If you have enough money for this kind of hobby, why are you buying a cheap economy car to begin with? Either you have poor math skills, or you really aren't building the motor properly and you're just some kid who wants to bolt a turbo on the Civic that your parents bought for you.

not to mention the fact that the drive train on a front wheel drive car like a civic was never designed to take the kind of torque that a hyped out motor puts out. and where is the fun in all that horsepower pulling you around? look i can do a brodie if i drive backwards!

That's why companies created after market axels so that you can use boost and whatever else that would make more torque.

Actually, I woudn't mind seeing the dyno slip to see if it really is 300hp. A t3 turbo? I don't know much about civic modding, but I would think a bigger turbo is needed. Isnt 300hp a 100%+ gain on the hp?

eh, since it has 300 HP he can put as many stickers, wings, plastic bits hanging off the body, and it still won't be rice.

Or how about the ~8hp/lb. class, which would put it on par with all but the biggest baddest V8's?

I hate this stupid argument, this "no replacement for displacement" bullsh!t. If that were true, Formula and CART would suck ass. Years ago, I built up a 200hp '69 VW Bug that ran low 12's and 0-60's in the low 4's.
Weight is waste. Large displacement is just an excuse for having too much weight to begin with.
