At 1280x1024, that 8800GTX is a great long term investment, a few years from now, GTXs will die at 1920x1200 but they will game quite fine at 1280x1024 eliminating the need to buy a new card.
By that same reasoning 640x480 makes the investment even "better" since the GTX will last even longer than it will at 1280x1024.
So if I'm reading your argument correctly you're claiming the poorer your display is, the better your GPU investment is?
This is actually the opposite of reality; the whole point of a fast GPU is to crank up the IQ where a lesser GPU can't. If you're CPU/display limited that advantage is reduced or even eliminated.
Not everyone has a very large monitor.
I never claimed otherwise. My point is pairing a high end GPU with a weakling monitor is wasted potential, kind of like someone never running more than 4xAA regardless of the game or the GPU.
