Question So I got the newegg shuffle -- and landed a 6800XT. Is this a good upgrade from my 1080ti?

The topic says it, but I 'won" the shuffle and got access to a card... so is this something worthwhile as an upgrade from my 1080ti? Appreciate it. I've been an nvidia user forever so this will be a change for sure.

Thanks!

You mean raffle. And a 6800XT is almost twice as fast as the 1080ti, whether it is worth it is your decision to make.

Buy it and resell if you don't need it.

I just took a look at that "shuffle" holy crap is newegg marking up prices. They suck.

From what Hardware Unboxed has said on Youtube, AIB's and distributors are jacking up prices and forcing bundles on the retailers, it's not the retailers doing it (although I'm sure they are probably adding some on top as well).

Asrock Taichi? It's about the only one I remember seeing available from time to time.

It's crazy how high prices have climbed. Not sure who to blame, but they're unreasonable now.

Congrats on the new card! I was originally wanting to get the 6800XT, but only 3090s were in stock when I went to the store, and I ended getting one of them.

The 6800XT is an amazing upgrade over the 1080Ti. The only issue I have with AMD cards is the fishy VR performance. They seem to have irregular performance and odd behavior, which I can't accept since all I do is VR game these days.

My 6900XT has performed very well in VR. Granted I've not fallen hard for VR and my sample size is small. I just have Arizona Sunshine, Pavlov, Onward, Alyx, MOH (which I still haven't played) and a few other less demanding titles. I'd probably be more into it if I were to spring the bucks for one of those VR rifle setups.

Nvidia does have better VR performance (especially the 3090), but I would say none of the existing cards are ideal for high end VR. Alyx and other FPS games are well optimized but most of the sim-type games are not. I generally need to use medium-ish settings and 50-75% of the G2's default resolution to hit a constant 90fps.

Yeah, the Newegg shuffle makes me eye twitch. You know that the market is screwed up when they can offer a chance to buy a GPU and (probably unwanted) motherboard bundle for 35% over MSRP, and you'll still probably strike out.
