Provided DTCP copy protection isn't enabled. All cable systems will enable it eventually. Comacst has it on sporatically in my area, working the bugs out.Originally posted by: SKORPI0

I've used up 2 250GB HDD to record some 720/1080p movies from HBO, Showtime and Starz HD. Also some documentaries from Discovery HD. The quality of the movies from DVDs pale in comparison.

only 10 dollars a month? Does it act as an HD tuner as well? We've got one of the original (non-hd) pvr's - but if we could upgrade to the HD with almost no added cost that would kick ass.

that recording HD content is a bit low, most other pvrs have 30 hrs HD capacity.
Still beats the crap outta DirecTV HD-Tivo that comes in at a paltry $1000.

So, when DTCP over Firewire is enabled, your box will show nada over component/Firewire outputs when a non-compliant device (ie😛C) is connected. I've tried it, and it works.
You will however be able to record all unprotected (locals) channels.

MSRP, but no one should have to pay MSRP. Look around. Call DirecTV. Ask retailers. I know many that have gotten them for $600.
