So I got pulled over for doing 60 in a 65.

I guess my speedometer is a little off. I thought I was going 65, but apparently I wasn't.

Cop was behind me for like 5 miles, and finally decided to pull me over. I knew he was going to, I could feel it.

He's like.. "I pulled you over for doing 60 in a 65. Is there any reason for this? That is obstruction of traffic."

I'm like, "Uh... I thought I was doing the speed limit."

He looked at my papers and sent me on my way.

It was amusing. Anti-climatic, I know. It was funny though.. Any excuse to check you out.

"I thought I was doing the speed limit"?
I woulda said something more specific, like, "According to my spedometer, I was doing the speed limit."

You could charge him with harrassment, since he had no point and was clearly just trying to check out your paperwork. You were breaking no laws and he knew it.

Well, those weren't my exact words.. I said that my speedometer said I was doing 65, and then repeated it when I applogized again before he let me go.. so I think he got the point.

Usually the guys carrying drugs or something similar will be doing 5 miles under if a cop follows them.

So if you go the speed limit or under, you're suspicious because only criminals actually do the speed limit. If you go over the speed limit, you're also a criminal.

Heh, glad you didn't get a ticket or anything, but seriously obstruction of traffic? That's BS. The only time they can get you for going too slow is when there is a posted minimum, and 5 under the limit he shouldn't have even wasted his time, he was probably hoping that you were holding or that you had some reason to drive extra cautiously around the cops.

dont forget, that most Speedometers are off 2-5 mph.. so um.. doing 65 on your speedo, could be grounds to pull anyone over... WTF?

He was like, "If you want to go under the speed limit, more power to you, but try and do it in the right lane."

I was in the middle lane.

It's the law to be in the right lane if you are doing under the speed limit. Oregon statute 811.135. He was probably just bored out of his mind.

Define impeding traffic. The officer was not harassing Eli and had a valid point. It's illegal to impede traffic.

You can get a ticket anyway. You can also get a ticket for driving with faulty equipment if it's something necessary for proper function.

make/model/year of car?

not that this matters.
1990 Toyota Tercel with something wrong with it; been too lazy to look into it.

Huge deadspot from about 1/4 of the pedal travel all the way to the floor.

Does 0-60 in about 2 minutes, and I have to downshift to 3rd to go up pretty much any hill at more than 50mph.

IOTW, it's hard to go 75.. so 60 is pretty good.

5 under in the FAST lane is not truly impeding traffic. It is rude for someone to do, but I don't know that it is something the cop would/could write you for. If you did get a ticket, any traffic judge would throw it out. This cop just tried to find something to use as "probable cause" for a fishing expedition. You want to avoid this in the future? Get a haircut, you hippy! 😉

Not the point. You don't want to give him fuel to verbally assault you "You might think you were doing the speed limit, but I know you weren't."
