i easily got 500-1000% from doubling my 512MB to 1GB and upgrading my 80GB to 2x 160GB Maxtor on RAID 0

Looking at the benchies on Anandtech for AMD's 64bit CPU's I know I sure wouldn't get that FX51. The 3000+ 64 is less than 1/3 the cost and almost as fast (just overclock!).

That's many times what the highest end will feel like. You gotta go one or two steps down to really feel like you got what you paid for.

That's another reason why I never reccomend the highest end of everything when I make part lists for people who want to build a computer, not even mention the depreciation of like $300 once the next cpu comes out even if its only 100mhz faster.

It's idiocy to spend top dollar for a brand new processor model unless you know full well what your getting. ALWAYS wait for the revision CPU.

This thread is annoying. I can't believe all these responses have been elicited from a post containing two words. Be more specific: What was your previous system? What applications do you use? Why are you feeling empty? What were you expecting?

That is why I never buy top of the line as well....Instead I pay 180 for a 2.4c (30 for a aftermarket HSf) and 105 for my mobo and I clock it to 3.5ghz and I know the athlon64 fx has nothing on it for nearly 2-3x times the cost.

I usually also like to get at least 15-20% increase in performance...I got it going from 2.4b@3.24ghz to a 2.4c@3.5ghz w/ HT.....Only 10% clock speed difference but the fsb increased 62% and HT increased my TMPGenc about 22% at same clock speed...yeah I felt this upgrade more so then 2.7ghz to 3.24ghz.....

What apps are you running??? What were you coming from???

If I would of kept the FX, I wouldnt of been able to upgrade to the R420 and 74GB Raptor when they hit my area.

That 9800XT isn't going to feel slow by then, so it may make you feel empty again. I doubt your current Raptor will be slow either. :D
