Well good luck to you.

And at quick glance when I clicked on the thread, I didn't see the word "off"... :)

I am feeling that weird vibe here at my work. Since yesterday 5 people have been laid off including a sales manager, public site webmaster, 2 salespeople, and a database admin.

yea...i'm still in aww...hehe...

i was in the IT security field...did everything from auditing systems, policies, procedures, to hardcore attack & penetration hacking....

one of the cool petty highlights of the day was when my manager said that when i go in to collect my things, to not forget to hand in my ID badge and not ruffle any feathers...hahaha...he had to tell upper management and push for them to allow me to get my things, upper management didn't want that to happen cuz they were worried about my abilities and that i may go ballistic on their network or something...LOL...so that was a momentary powertrip....

they cut over 10% of our team today...ICK!!...they been cutting ppl left and right...just last month they flew this one manager in from NC (i'm in TX btw)..they told him there was a manager's meeting....so he was lied to, upon arrival and meeting attentance, which was just him and the upper heads, they gave him the boot....duno why they flew him in just to do that...maybe to comandeer (sp?) his laptop...

It happened to me this past Thursday, so I can completely relate. :(

So now I've got my resume updated, and this week begins my search for new employment. On the bright side, I now know what it's like to be awake during the day.. No more night shift.

Sorry to hear that dude... Look around and try to find a government job...pay sucks most of the time, but benefits are good and job security will be a little higher. That's what I did...

i know for my uncle, who got laid off about 5 months ago, being laid off was one of the best things that could've ever happened to him. before he'd work ~12 hours a day, come home really late, and never get to see his kids or otherwise ever have a good time. now he's doing all sorts of stuff with them, and he's actually enjoying life for once. so, it may be tough initially, but you know, if you're not going to find a job soon..might as well make the best of it!

Yeah, but is it a Swingline? ;)

Sorry to hear about your unemployment. But you never know, this could be the best thing to happen to you.

I lost a job about five years ago, due to some unfortunate circumstances. Five years later, and it was definitely one of the best decisions I've ever made. :)

one good thing about being unemployed is that you can sleep in and get in some gaming time:)

I heard after getting laid off, for every $10,000 you made, expect to be out of work for a month.

DOH!...hope that's not tru cuz then that means i'm in for a world of financial hurt... :(

thanx everyone for the comforting words...its been an otherwise mundane day...maybe shock hasn't set in yet...hehe...all i did all day was hit up lunch with a friend and then coffee shop....just couldn't stand to be at home today, probably cuz that's what i did most of the time, is work at home...hehe...so it was good while it lasted...

I don't know how that's supposed to work. If you're an executive, you're certainly not going to be out an entire year or more looking for a job. There is always a need for senior management if you know where to look.

I think much of how long to expect to wait depends on what field you're looking in. I can tell you right now, if my employer suddenly lost all her money, I could almost without a doubt, find a new, similar job with similar pay within 2-3 weeks (and yes, I make a little more than $10,000/year).

Dude, don't say that! Not only is it bad karma, I had a well-paying job...
