Yea, broad generalizations always go over really well. I didn't HATE Doom3. I didn't think it was a POS game, so stop trying to talk for everyone else on the forum.

I can't even play HL2 for more than 20 minutes without literally getting sick to my stomach. Try the demo for both games and get the one you like. It is that simple.

Just for my 2 cents, I am also Pro-Doom3. It is a great game to just pick up and play a couple levels at a time. There is always going to be action right around the next corner. I also love halflife 2 but they are very different games. If I had 10 mins to kill and wanted to play something quick, I would pick Doom 3. If I had an hour and a half, I would pick Halflife 2. Btw, Chronicles of Riddick is a great game also

This wasn't a vote on whether Doom3 was a POS game. It was a vote on which game is better, HL2 or Doom3. Saying HL2 is better than Doom3 is not the same thing as saying Doom3 is a POS. Unless you think HL2 is also a POS because Far Cry is better?

Apoppin, seems like you are trying to force your opinion on him. Do you have something personal against Carmack or is the CEO of Valve giving you head? Doom 3 is a good game! Maybe not as immersive as HL2 but definately not the pile chimpanzee poo you claim it to be. Time to take a couple of Riddilin(sp?) and relax

Apoppin i see that you are basing your posts off of this poll. This poll, it seems to me, was based on the immersive GAMEPLAY. DIII was never meant to be immersive. It was meant to do the 2 things i said above. Also i know you jumped more than one time, you can stop playing it off. These sequences that make you jump are by no means repetitive. What is repetitive is the gameplay, but it is supposed to be. Remember the original doom; it was fun and gun (not football). You just shoot anything and everything that moves.

The AI might be scripted (ie Last level was insanely easy), but throughout the game things were popping up on top, under, and on your side. And then when you go to shoot it it would disappear again. Far Cry has a very nice AI as well, but it is in a different class than Dooms. Far Cry the monsters and people were meant to be somewhat intelligent. In DIII you have a bunc of Demons from hell not a bunch of people trained in killing or enhanced in someway.

DIII was and remains a very good game. THe facts that you are bringing up are not flaws, but are not intended to be competing with HL2 and FC. DIII was mean to scare you, and to display one of the best gfx engines yet created.

I think both games are worth buying, and I enjoyed them both quite a bit for different reasons. I think HL2 offers quite a bit more with CS:S included, but I think you can find D3 a bit cheaper. Get both.

Haven't played d3 yet,... but HL2 is a big disappointment to me. I hate the vehicals, and the whole time your running from bullets/bugs in it till you get road blocked, hop out the shoot a couple guys and figure a way to get the car/buggy things thru. Rinse and REPEAT. After leaving the town where you meet the shotgun guys it got so boring i cant force myself to play it anymore.

Maybe it gets better, but i want D3 for the Doom 1 mod alone.

Halo2 is still fps king imo.

Yeah, Carmack promised a great game and delivered a steaming pile of chimpanzee poo instead. Valve can bite me because of Steam (the game is good, the delivery sux). i am quite relaxed . . . you guys are defending the indefensible and are getting worked up. 😛

Riddick's Starbreeze engine is nearly on a par with Diii and delivers a MUCH better FPS. So does PK/BOoH . . .

i bought both HL2 and Diii the first couple of days they were available UNaware that Diii was such a POS or that Steam would be such frustration for Hl2.

Some people probably think Daiktana is the greatest game ever.

Me, I think Doom I > Doom II > HL 1 > Far Cry >Doom III > HL2, just to bring up just about every game that's relevant.

What I just can't understand is what people liked so much about HL2, HL1 is one of my favourite games ever, HL2 is just boring, IMO, but unlike some other people, I'm not crapping in every damn thread I see about HL2 :roll:

R:TW is a game well worth the $. Lots of replay value for single-player, and the MP isn't bad at all. It slows down a bit when I have two huge armies going head to head, fire arrows flying all over the place on High, 1600x1200 4x8x, but that's to be expected I suppose 😛

As for DIII, I was sorely disappointed. Well, the graphics just rock, but the gameplay leaves something to be desired. Like having something pop out from behind you when you walk into a room or have something jump at you when you open a door? Get ready for that about 10000000000 times over. This will live on as one of the only FPS games I've quit mid-way through - I just couldn't take any more of its monotony.... and my nerves were getting shot big time.

And since STALKER is still about 5 years away, HL2 by default for a good FPS game, I guess.

Yeap-yeap. And I praise your respectable opinion on D3. I agree. D3 sorely lacks in originality and gameplay as HL2 did.

FEAR, the next supposed blockbuster hit first shooter, will hopefully make the June 05 dead line. It looks like it's turning into one hell of a horror/shooter. Two my favorite game genres mixed into one. I have my doubts it will be out in June though. It will likely hit the shelves this Fall at the earliest..

i am not "a lot" of people . . . i had zero expectations - [other then expecting 2 good games . . . . well i got one good game with crap delivery (hl2) and one steaming pile of chimpanzee poo (diii) with great gfx.

HL2 is a MUCH better GAME (imo, duh)

I'd suggest Far Cry, particularly if you like "tropical beauty", larger maps (open spaces) and a game that will require developing some tactics. And its price has dropped significantly.

More importantly perhaps for your objective of seeing what your card can do, FC uses some graphical developements SM 3.0 etc that only the new nVidia line offers AFAIK.

D3 on the hand, is cramped and not much on tactics IMHO. I don't know if it employs the newer graphical stuff (I've got a 9800p which doesn't, so I don't ATM follow that too closely).

I've no doubt D3 will stress your card, OTOH due to its repetiveness I believe you can pretty much see it "all" in the demo. However, its pretty inexpensive these days so no biggie to add to your library.

HL2: I'm wary of STEAM, the game's price is high, so I don't have it and can't comment.
