3 years? Did you have any indication that he'd do something like that to you or anyone else? Is he in some kind of trouble?

edit: "trouble" as in he owes someone money fast?

he never acted or did anything wrong to his friends that i know of. When he moved 2 years ago, i helped him out and when i moved in 2 months ago to my place he helped out a lot. He was always willing to hang out and chill, nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing i know of with issues of money

How much of a deductible do you have for the repairs to what he broke? (window, door handle, etc) Go after him for the deductible.

It's great that they found all of your stuff. Now if they could just give you 5 minutes with your "friend."

Now get a lawyer and prepare to sue for damages. Actual damages - the cost to clean up, anything that needs to be repaired or replaced, and emotional harm as well.

Damn...I hope you guys plan a party for when your little "friend" gets out of prison, assuming he serves time.

I have a similar story.

I had a friend who lived a few houses away from me. We'd always hang out and be at each other houses a lot. Sometimes my "friend" would "accidentally" walk away with a guitar pick, little metal Risk figurine, etc. Nothing of value, but I still got pissed that he would take stuff from my house. Well eventually over the years I noticed that I couldn't find my Palm m100 nor could my dad find his skinning knife that he kept in the garage.

Fast forward to a couple years after the Palm m100 was missing, I walk over to my friends house, and his dad answers the door. He tells me to go to the back because my "friend" is in the hot tub. And that's when I noticed him playing around with my Palm m100. To make a long story short, he denied it at first and later his Dad bought me a newer, nicer Sony Clie.

I still think he stole my Dad's fish skinning knife as well.

sucks, but most thefts are done by people one knows or in their neighborhood. Worst was a neighbor of mine...he went away for vacation and we were watching his house (I was like in middle school at the time, my dad was the one doing the watching).

We walk in to feed his fish one night and there is a man about the same build as our neighbor pulling a shirt over his head down the hallway. My dad apologized and said he didn't know [our neighbor] was home; the guy darted out and jumped out a window. Then there was a mess of people running out and more windows breaking and doors slamming open.

Turns out his teenage daughter set her parents up and not only that but did the guy in their bed. My dad called the police and they said not to touch anything...as we walked around their was only one set of closet doors not opened and I wanted to open them...I had said their someone in there to my dad in another room. Sure enough they found one guy hiding in a sleeping bag in that closet and he ratted out the rest.

There was about 1/2 dozen people in that house that did not belong when we entered. That was mid-80's...I think if it were mid-90's/now we would have been under fire.
