When leaving work yesterday, i wasn't looking forward to pumping water out of my basement but i knew i had to do it. So i get to my house and walk in....my couch is moved, dvds all over the floor, my wii, home theater unit, and friggin' sega dreamcast is gone. I ran into my room and my window was wide open. I got robbed. What was weird is they didn't touch anything in my room of which i have computer stuff all over the place, but they did take my extra dvd player i was trying to sell on the for sale forums that was in my room. After looking around the place, they attempted to break in the back door but i had a deadbolt that requires a key on both sides, so they broke out a window from my basement and came up through the stairs. That door was locked, they managed to take the door handle off and that is no where to be found. Ugg...owning a home sucks. But my tv is still there..thank god!

::Update::

Well after all the bs, the detective calls me yesterday and tells me that they found my dvds at a local pawn shop and the same person had all the rest of my stuff. The only thing they bought was 33 dvds @ $2 a piece..jesus. Come to find out the owner of the store knew the person and it comes out to be one of my friends for the past 3 years! Me and all my friends are furious. I got an update last night that they recovered all my stuff and the kid is in custody. Just when i though the local police didn't do anything...they definitly proved me wrong.

Oh and since yesterday my basement is dry! :)

::Update 2::

Last night i got a call to go identify and pick up my stuff. I got everything back except for like 4 dvds of which i have no idea what they are. Anyway the breakin happened wednesday morning, they called him up thursday night to come in because he was a susspect, he actually went in and fessed up to everything. He got 3 charges; burgulary, theft, and something with the tool he got to get in. So he pawned my dvds at a local place, then went to a gamestop and traded in my wii and everything i had with it. The Detective said when he got in there it was all put to the side for some lady to buy, she had to run home and get money. It was stickered up for $229...i would of even bought it if i was just there and saw that! Thank god i got that back. Hooked up everything last night and everything is good including the wii and home theater ah! :)

since when has it ever?
if they're determined to get in, they'll get in whether its breaking a window or breaking off the door handle.

Sorry to hear :( Yeah if they wan't in they'll find a way. Especially if you have a huge living room window with the blinds open where they can peek.

This happened to my parents and my cousin's home as well. Within the first week of us moving in, both our garages where ransacked and the vehicles broken into. Someone around the neighbourhood had their eyes set on us.

:| ... I have experienced a couple of break-ins too, and although I lost little of true value it still irks me (over 5 years ago now). Bastards! :|

I'm sorry, but if all you had to do was lock your door, you were not in the ghetto or anything close to it.

If you were truly in the ghetto, locking doors isn't even a question. The real issue would be how many deadbolts you have, if you have a security door in front of it, and if you have security bars on all the 1st floor windows.

trust me, it was a ghetto area. people have been shot infront my house two times when i was growing up. Anyone who has lived in the Lowell acre area during the 90's knows how ghetto that area was.

you could probably go around the corner and buy your DVD player from the person that stole it from you.....

then you didn't have anything they wanted bad enough or they didn't think you had anything worth stealing.

if someone is DETERMINED to get in your house, a simple locked door will not stop them.
