So I got a miserable 3D Mark on my P4........

actually it is.

My "rig" if you will. A Dell 3000 P4 3.0 512 PC3200 NO AGP slot so I am forced to use a PCI GeForce FX 5500 card.

Now first off, I know I will never have the best performance. I know this. I am considering several options....one of which is to use my P4, RAM, and HD to make a new computer.......we will see.

I have taken steps in the video dept. First was the Intel graphics bypass.......I have disabled it and added the 5500. It sucks.

Doing some research, I have a Xtasy 9100 128 PCI card on the way. Hopefully this will give me a marked improvement.

I have disabled all services not needed, according to a guide on the ol internet.

I have a best score right now of 1256. Its laughable.

So? What tweaks can I do? I have changed the page file to 2-512 and it was worth 100 pts.

Help me. I want to see what I can do with this rig. If you are going to tell me to buy a new one, or I am screwed......go ahead. I would; however, like some advice.

Thanks for your time.

Chris

first off if you want to keep your proc. get a motherboard

I have bought several P4P800 SE's from newegg for 60 bucks. 2 of them were retail box

then you will need a case.

the fact is if you want an improvement your going to have to pay for it. a measly 100 marks in 3dmark aint going to cut it in any game.

do you want to play games or run 3dmark...

there nothing u can do to increase your 3d mark score because 3d mark is heavily base on graphic render by your video card

you can probably play new game at min. setting and some RTS game such as warcraft with decent fps

other then that, you jus have to be happy with what you get since u not really into game like you said

Yeah, the only way you will get a higher score is if you upgrade the graphics card. That means you will need a new motherboard, case (The dell ones don't like other parts), and possibly PSU.

That will probably to over $250 there, plus the actual graphics card. I would just stop playing 3dmark and try a few games out. If you don't mind running at low settings and lower resolutions, you should be OK.
