in the OTPA link I gave on pg. 6

A landlord must pay the tenant six per cent interest on the deposit every year.

so yes, you're entitled to this interest from your rent deposit

I don't know what your quality life is normally, but you guys live like pigs. That's disgusting.

Congratulations, you had a mess and got called on it.

Don't start thinking that keeping your place clean is a choice, if you rent, consider it mandatory.

If I were your landlord I wouldn't renew your lease, even if you did clean up. If you let the house get that messy that's telling me right there, I don't care if you clean it up afterwards. Exams are not an excuse, I have exams too and still manage to pick up after myself.

But then again, if I were a landlord, I wouldn't rent to students. Being one, I know how the houses end up.

You post pictures of your sh!thole and expect sympathy here? No sane landlord would renew your lease. No sane guarantor would put their name on your lease again.

That really wasn't that bad. Anyone who may have considered that "filthy" and disgusting needs a reality check. Stoves get dirty quick, but they clean up like nothing. You're a fan of the Lakeport Honey Brown huh?? A buck a beer.w00t.

I thought that as long as we clean it up before we move out (leave the house in the same condition as which we got it) it should be fine

Yeah, I don't feel like reading the whole thread. You have no obligation to keep the house clean unless you specifically signed some ancillary agreement stating such, however the landlord does have the right not to renew your lease. So if you feel like living like a slob until your lease expires, feel free to do so. I'd *probably* put up some web cams to record the comings and goings of your landlord, it sounds like he frequents your place while you are out. I don't know about you, but I have electronics and goods well in excess of the value of the property in which I live (apartment) and while I have renters insurance, I leave the web cams running when I'm out to ensure that no one takes advantage of this fact.
