Hiyas all... after MONTHS of searching for SOMETHING other than what I have now... I finally got a decent interview coming up, first phone and then in person.

Anyways, the position is a Jr. Network Analyst for Windows 2000/2003 servers in NYC in a hedge fund. It's 50k/year which isn't a whole lot in NYC, but since I'm looking at this position as a building block to the future, it's not so important, specially since I'm still living at home and have few expenses.

Anyways.. I'm pretty excited to get out of my current dead-end job where I am underpaid and overworked (really.. these guys have a BAD turnover rate), and where my boss is an obsessive compulsive who insists things be neat instead of done right. So what I'm looking for is some feedback on how to interview on the phone, in person, etc.. I don't usually get nervous for this type of stuff, so it's something you can take out of the equation, and I speak pretty well and clearly so hopefully that's a plus, I'm just trying to get an idea of what to answer to those BS questions like "what's your greatest XXX blah blah blah" type things.

Any help is appreciated, wish me luck! Phone interview tomorrow!

Goodluck! Talk a lot, don't allow long pauses on the phone, and be involved. Be sure to ask questions and when they say something ask them a bit more about it so that they know you care (or rather pretend you care).

Good luck! Be confident, and do not try to BS something you don't know. If you don't know something, freely admit it; employers can teach skillsets, but they want to see you as someone who is both intelligent and personable (i.e. a good fit for the team).

dont babble as well... be straight to the point when the interviewer ask question. However, also try to explain in as much detail as possible. Lots of details, but straight to the point.

Also if you are nervous bout the phone interview, jot down key points that you are planning to ask or talk about.

if all else fails, watch porn during the phone interview!! :D:D

oh and good luck

ok do this.... read as much about thecompany as you can Get to know them inside out and then during the interview, drop certain thigns that they probably dont expect you to know... it will show that you did your research and really want to work for them. Go as far as to perhaps compare something unique about them that other hedge funds dont offer and why that appeals to you.

learn what they do and how you can affect their company. Tell that to them and if you get the technical part down pat, then you'll be fine. If you know nothing about hedge funds, learn as much as you can now.

Good luck and remember, you are only nervous if you didnt do your homework first. Walk into that interview knowing as much as you can about them, since they are trying to know as much as they can about you.

I used to work for a hedge fund, so I think it won't be too bad :)

Problem with hedge funds is pretty inherent though, that there's not much information about them publicly available since they are mostly private :)

I second the be honest and don't ramble if you don't know what's up. My last interviews I had, which went superbly, I had no problem admitting if I didn't know something. I was just straight out with it. I find that it almost gives some validity to you when you do some minor rambling because they figure that if I was honest with one thing about not knowing it, I probably know something else if I say I do :)
