1)whats wrong with it.
2)read data off of the primary partition.

Ie...he lost a weeks worth sent emails. He's not goign to be happy.

Sucks for him.

I told him to start using our IMAP address.
I told him to setup auto backup.

And I was supposed to sleep and study and go swimming and stuff today🙁

I keep on trying and his files are GONE 🙁

His PC is up and running, but his docs are, the ones that were backuped up anyway,as it turns out, a MONTH old.
He hasn't lost his business files and such, but practically all his personal stuff novermber until now is GONE.

he didn't sound happy🙁

question:

there should be any issues with attempting a recovery using a firewire external enclosure right?

I REALLY don't want to put this drive in a machine

look into a knoppix live cd, bart's PE, or even ERD. if you have to use a windows app, your best bet is going to be easy recovery pro in raw mode, although it will just pull the data and extensions, not the location properties or file names. it should work with firewire or usb enlclosures, but you're much more likely to have a successful recovery if it's plugged directly into a controller

As suggested, USB or Firewire external enclosure is the next step. After that, decide what the data is worth and get out your wallet for data recovery.

FYI,

I have multiple recovery and chkdk progies, and in the end, I won

muwhahahah

100% data recovery:evil:

I still don't know if there are hardware issues with the drive. Every utility freezes.

I'll jsut ransfer the data over, wipe it, an dthen decide whether it goes inthe trash.😀

actually that was my frist step..about 10 hours ago.

many recovery programs ( GDB, OTERP + chkdsk +other unmentionables) later here I am😀

How big is this HDD, what's make and model? If it's no good for you, I can probably use it for parts if it's a decent drive.

no way dude......if it is good, I'll use it.

Have to run test on it😀

I am in the process of backing up his data now that it is all where it needs to be.

I've leave all the original data that was on the faulty HD on there for a few days jsut in case hell freezes over or something....

Odds are the board is FUBAR and that is what caused the error.

Seriously, you people should haveseen all the profanity that chkdsk spit out😛

IT was ridiculous. Never seen such foulness anywhere else in my life😛

The drive is a 120GB Maxtor "whatever" ultra ata 100 model..not really new.

It was replaced by a WD 250GB. We didn't have time to go and search for a good deal on a seagate🙁
