I thought i'd better post this in Video as it will affect several members here.

i got a call on my cell phone from someone asking if i was "Mark Helz" . . .

now my Profile identifies me as 'Mark' . . . since my nick is 'apoppin', i originally thought "Helz a'poppin" would be a great name . . . he missed the humour. :p

ANYWAY, after figuring out he "knows" me from ATF, he identified himself as a lawyer with a LA Law firm that is interested in pursuing ATi in a class action lawsuit.

Of course i asked HOW he found me [he is an 'investigative' lawyer and i already realize that i am not hard to find, but i was curious anyway].

Evidently they are interested in our thread ATI is not HDCP ready
and he wanted my 'take' on the subject. i replied that ATi said it was up to their individual partners to impliment HDCP . . . he then asked me if i wanted 'in' on a class action lawsuit.

{of course i refused as i am NOT an owner of an x1900 series but i did refer him to n7 in the thread as an owner and Woofmeister as another lawyer out chasing the "ATi ambulance".

Weird

I was just checking my email and I got a similar message from an LA attorney
I work for a law firm and I am trying to get more information about ATI?s HDCP advertising claims and I saw that made some postings about this. I was hoping to talk with you about this so I can learn a little more and maybe find a solution. Are you opposed to talking with someone from a law firm about this?
The contact info has been deleted.

I was going to post a thread about this if I didn't see one because I have a feeling we're not the only ones who got one of these.

petty weird as they "search" you out . . . that took a little effort to find my cell phone number.

and i think i goofed when i mentioned n7 . . . evidently it was rbV5 that was peeved at ATi and actually bought a x1900xt.

sorry

edit: and i see that fierydemise has also been contacted . . . evidently the suit is likely to go forward.

The lawyers will get $$$ and the ATi owners will get "coupons" :p

i guess you werent supposed to post the contact info
:Q
. . . . although i don't think they have any legal gounds to ask for confidentiality in an unsolicited communication.

i didn't want to mention 'who' ;)
[even though it was a phone call]

:D

edit: i guess it's become a PSA . . . now anyone who is peeved at ATi's alleged false advertising knows who to contact . . . and i PMmed Woofmeister as a courtesy.

If Mr. Law Clerk Louie Nevitt wouldn't have been so blinded by dollar signs, he might've actually read the thread and noticed that it's only the GPU specification sheet that claimed to be HDCP ready.

The guy must not be very smart because it is up to the partners of ATI to implement HDCP, to bad he will not win and if he is using information from a forum well then he is stupid.

The fact of the matter is that ATIs board partners are safe, but BBA boards are ATIs downfall.. they made the boards under their name (tho Sapphire actually makes them), and marketed them as ATI boards that supported HDCP.
When the truth came out, they tried to hide their claims then put them back online and decided they'd fight the case without looking like they covered up their tracks.

I did not purchase one of these cards, but I'm willing to provide a firm with any answers to any questions they might have on the fiasco so justice can be done for consumers who bought into this.
PM me for my email address.

Why don't you point out the Nvidia PVP fiasco to them while you're out righting wrongs.

Get a life.

alas . . . no longer . . . ATI has [finally] clarified what they mean by "HDCP reardy" . . . i think you would have to have already been "fooled" by their alleged false advertising into buying an x1900xt or xTx. :(

i think you're too late . . . and the lawyers get the 'big money' . . . this case will likely take YEARS to settle.

Wow, never knew class action lawsuits worked like this.

What a miserable, money-grabbing system it really is.

they are interested in OWNERS of the ATi Video card . . . not FUD and 2nd hand heresay.

EDIT: the e-mail may not be clear, but their lawyer made it clear they were interested in owners of this card to join in the suit . . . they will file discovery and . . .alas . . . you would be one of the last people of this forum that would be called as an "expert Witness" :p

Damn spammers... I got the same message. I'll probably be getting loads of porno e-mails now that I put my address up (bad idea). That lawsuit is baseless IMO. That guy is going to dig a deep hole for himself once he realizes what he's gotten into. Did it ever say HDCP ready on the BBA board specifications? (No, I don't think it did. The GPU still supports HDCP.) It's like "HDTV ready". Sure, it's shady, but nothing you can do about it. Go sue Microsoft because Vista requires (insert ludicrous requirement here)? LOL, I better run, he's going to sue me for talking negative about the lawsuit. :) I may sound like a bastard but I'm just trying to save him from losing lots of dough.

Oh no.. they'll be interested in information from people who have been watching these lies. They just want peoples take on it, all they need is enough people for the class action suit.

Sure, they want people who bought the board.. but if they need any info that your little ATI clique hasnt posted in this thread.. I know the story, have the links if they need them and can provide additional insight to assist them in their case.
They arent looking for witnesses, dont be stupid (I know thats not hard for you amoppin).

I dont care if they contact me or not, I'm going to email the firm all the info that I have. They will take a look at it, trust me ;)
If they dont.. do I care? :disgust:

Funny, no mention of BBA cards by you guys.. :D :D :D
This is about the consumers, we cant have ATI lying to their own customers so something must and will be done.

Crusader, this thread isn't about the issue itself its about this lawyer spamming AT users, if you don't want to discuss that issue do us all a favor and go away
