So I gave Ebay one more try....

I swore off Ebay years ago but thought I would give it a try since I kept hearing that Ebay/Paypal are in favor of buyers now.

I found and XBox 360 HD for a decent price, used buy it now and paid immediately. I didn't hear anything from the seller for a few days so I shot him an email. He replied back that he had shipped it that day and he had just marked it shipped.

2 weeks go by and no sign of it...email the guy again and he says to wait a bit longer....I wait another week and still nothing. I sent him another email and his reply was "USPS doesn't lose anything. Either you will get it or it will get returned to me." WHOA!

I filed a dispute with Paypal and they are investigating it. The seller provided a tracking number for a package that was shipped 4 days before I bought my item and was shipped to the other side of the country. Its been a week and still nothing from Paypal.

Lesson learned...Ebay still sucks and always will.

I filed an ebay/half.com dispute and it took a few weeks, but they did rule in my favor. ~$40 textbook..fortunately I was able to borrow one..

So how long does shipping from Nigeria take anyway? 😉

Ive had my fleabay account since 2004 and 275 succesful transactions. Ive only been ripped off once when I was a powerseller and another ebay merchant bought some items from me. Long story short she resold my products and never shipped them and I was hit with two chargebacks. I won one but lost another and was out about $1200.00

Overall Ive made well over $12,000 off ebay in profit from about $45,000 in sales, so overall it wasnt TOO bad.

Must have been a hijacked account. Or he gave you the wrong tracking number by accident and its just taking forever.

i was considering getting back into it, just to sell some low-value yet desirable sports cards of up-and-coming hockey players.

i've stayed away from high $$ items though... just too many bad stories out there. sorry about your experience OP. i hope it works out for you.

Like the OP I decided to give it another go and sell off my iPhone 3G on Ebay. Turns out if you sell an item for over $100 paypal holds the funds for 30 days! What a bunch of BS.

That and another item I sold for around $500 was never paid for so I am fighting with ebay to refund my final value fees and listing fees which is a headache.

Thanks but its not that big of a deal...its only $30. I was just hoping that things had changed....they haven't.

DX FTW!

too bad it wasn't a Jesus pita.... at least you could put that item up for bids.

I finally got into selling some stuff on Ebay. I had a couple items I had gotten for free and with no job I thought I'd get some needed income. I learned how "risky" no reserve auctions starting at 99 cents can be. I should have reminded myself how people online can be huge cheapskates. Only one of my three items sold for what I would say is a fair price, the other two I practically gave away. Lesson learned. At least the crap is out of my house.

i'm sorry, what does ebay have to do with a shitty seller? or maybe you could be the problem by not checking out the auction thoroughly enough? this is like buying a toaster from walmart and then blaming walmart because it doesn't work. walmart had nothign to do with the toaster not working, it was the manufacturer.

I have a feeling I'm about to get screwed on an auction. Not because the item won't be shipped, but because the item won't match what the auction description states. I contacted the seller asking him to confirm if what was stated in the auction was indeed correct which the seller confirmed that it had. This was after I won the auction but prior to paying for it. We'll see.

Jesus Christ - pay with a credit card, if you get screwed do a chargeback and you'll be fine. I've had ~200 transactions on eBay and only one problem, which was promptly solved by Amex bitch-slapping Paypal.

Yeah, you just keep thinking that.... Paypal can and will come after you for that chargeback, and they'll send it to collections if they have to. You'll have no recourse because you agreed to it when you signed up.

Hasn't happened to me, though I've only done it once. Paypal was screwing around so I called my CC company. Mysteriously, problem solved in a matter of days.

Paypal can send whatever they want to collections...but I have a hard time believing they'll have a leg to stand on when a CC refuses to pay them due to fraud.

That's nonsense.

If the guy cannot prove he shipped THAT ITEM you will get your money back. A tracking # from 4 days before..lolmao

You can always CALL paypal and easily solve such issues...merchandise not received, money back. I dont even see a problem here.

Ok...lets go with your comparison.

Lets say I buy a toaster at Walmart and it breaks. I take that toaster back and get a different toaster but that one breaks too. I decided to give up on toasters and buy a vacuum. Well the vacuum breaks as well. So I try to talk to a manager about the issues but instead I am given an unsharpened pencil and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles napkin and told to leave them a message. Finally having enough, I go to leave Walmart but my car has been stolen. After finally walking home through the pouring rain I find out that not only was I charged for all the broken items I bought, but I was also billed for the pencil and napkin.

Not Walmart's fault at all....but would I go back there?
