So I found out what I'm getting for Xmas...

So I sent my parents a list of stuff for xmas ideas for me. Well turns out they both had the same idea. I got a Blu-Ray player from one, and the other got me a PS3 (but we are doing xmas in a week when I go visit). I wouldn't be playing games on the PS3, and the sole reason I wanted one was for a Blu-Ray player. I only have 1 HDTV, and I can't return the player I got already so I have a few options.

Keep both. No real reason for it since I don't really play console games, and have a Blu-Ray player already.

Get a Wii instead. I would play Wii games, but not often once school starts up. The gf could get her Wii Fit she wants though.... lol

Something else on my list (Harmony One/890 remote, Logitech DiNovo Edge, HT receiver, and AKG K271 headphones were the main things).

I'd go Harmony. I wish you could return the other BR player though and keep the PS3 - mostly because of playing movies off of USB and stuff.

I'd keep the PS3 for the player. If you ever wanted a PS3 game, you'd be capable of playing it. Return the player and get a Wii. My GF uses mine all the time (she wants Wii Fit too.. but we haven't gotten around to getting it) 😛

Why would you need a harmony if you don't even have a receiver?

It's one of the things I WTB, and most likely will at some point this year.

Actually I will most likely buy both the remote and receiver at some point this year (tax return maybe?)

edit: currently have Kuro 5080, Blu-Ray, and cable box, but like I said I do plan to buy a receiver at some point this year to change how my audio stuff is setup (right now through the HTPC and I hate it this way, because as of now I don't have any way to input any other source to it. So for non-pc based content I have to use the speakerbar with the Kuro. I plan to buy actual HT speakers, but other things are first and the 5.1 I have work well enough for now).

I vote Wii.

You can do the Wii fit too. It can be made into a good exercise program. Keeps track for you.
Also, in college or not, you should be exercising.

Does that mean a speaker and sub purchase as well?

I do at work, we have a gym here with most equipment.

Outside of that I use the schools equipment at their gym.

So the Wii Fit wouldn't be something that *I* would benefit much from, because of other ways I exercise.

At some point yes.

I wish sooner then it most likely will happen, but until then I have to use my 5.1 logitech system (the one right before the z-5500's, IIRC the 5300's)

But it would make for good competition between you and your gf. 😀

What's the receiver going to do then? Just sit there? Video switching only?

The Logitechs would be plugged into it with RCA>headphone splitter. This would allow me to use the Logitechs for all sound, and not just HTPC (i.e. no blu-ray/tv 5.1 speakers right now).

It would also allow me to then buy HT speakers, because as of now I have no way to drive them.

All audio outputs>receiver>Logitechs
All video outputs>receiver>Kuro (duh lol)

The other option, would be get a new sound card for the HTPC that gives me optical/spdif in (but I wouldn't get the full blu-ray audio, but with the Logitechs I'm not getting the most out of it anyways). If I didn't get a receiver this would most likely be my next purchase actually.

edit: I do realize this isn't an *ideal* setup, but one of those damn financial blocks to buying what I want 😛 (which would be Focal 1037s, amp, and processor 😛)

And that's always a fun thing to do, especially when it benefits both of our health 😉

Although I would win..... 😛

I'll trade you my plasma and my Harmony remote...and my PS3 for your Kuro.

deal?

Lol, I <3 my Kuro. It's a thing of beauty everytime it turns on.

I still need to get a professional ISF calibration though....
