So i fired up Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 this evening...and i was blown away, it's amazing fun without the whole...

It feels like they copied the handling code straight from Underground.

you WILL kill that card at 90c

in fact at 70c the card starts throttling back on the mhz and your actually losing performance.

i am amazed you actually sit ther eand play anything with that card running that hot. i give a rat's bunghole what nvidia or ati or anyone says about how hot the cards can get and not die 90c WILL kill that card and they are throttled. infact around 90c its throttled back far enough i wonder how the game even runs...

take the hsf off and clean it up and reapply some AS5 and please make sure you got some extra air blowing on the card the stock fans on these cards arent even close to being good enough. total crap aluminum just with a worthless fan system.

but yes NFS Most Wanted is wicked good on the pc.
only problem with this game and all other NFS titles is , ,,, when you have finished it there isnt much of a reason to keep playing it is there.... eh ?,,,,

Do you have anything to back up your claims, or are you just saying stuff?

My card idles at or above 60C (as do many other 6800GT's, from what I've read), so there's no way the (stock) card would be able to stay under 70C at load unless you had ridiculously low ambient temperatures. I don't doubt that the stock cooler could stand to be improved, but they're not going to ship out tens of thousands of cards with a cooler that's going to cause the death of the GPU. I also don't believe your claim of throttling at 70C either. FarCry and other games run pretty well at 1680x1050 on my card (exactly the kind of conditions that would push up the heat - I saw 90C myself when running Lost Coast). I very much doubt I'm seeing any throttling - and if I am, just about everyone else should be too (which I've not heard anything about to this day). Not to mention that I've been running the card for almost a year and a half now, and I see no signs of imminent death...

The card starts throttling at the threshold listed in the Coolbits temperature settings, not 70C.

Absolutely!

Will have to try "Most Wanted" though. Maybe this time they've managed to get that simulator feel back on the track.

Burnout 3 was great, revenge was a disappointment, they took out the 1 thing that made it stand out, the physics. Rear ending traffic doing 180mph and having it fly harmlessly out of the way is just lame.

I was very disappointed in BO:R.

NFS:HP2 was the 2nd best racing game for me :) burnout 3 is king.

most wanted is totally the shiznit. im ranked 7 on the blacklist and oh boy. its awesome. i used to love hp2 on my ps2.. but damn this is that but with current cars + tuning. no more 10 000 bodykit items and stuff. they really cut down on that. totally awesome how you can drive out of a race and cops that were chasing you in the race continue to be after you when you finish. also when races end it goes back into free roam and all the cars racing continue to drve throughout the world. AWESOME GAME :D!

Need for Speed 3 is still the most FUN racing game I've ever played. The big ebrake slides in the XKR-15 and the CLK-GTR simply can't be touched by any game since!

Because of all the Honda ricer crap, and a crap movie called The Fast and The Furious.

Did no one ever make a mod for NFS:HP2 that added dashboards? That's why I passed on it.

Test Drive II on the Amiga with Super Cars and Muscle Cars add ons FTW!

Now I remember why I never got into NFS:HP2... no dashboards like in previous versions of Hot Pursuit. That really ticked me off... felt like I was playing a stupid console game.

Does the NEW NFS "most wanted" game have dashboards? Inquiring minds want to know.

(and I thought I was the only Amiga guy who remembers the Test Drive series... man, you must be old like me Slickone).

Hah. Yep. Actually I first played Test Drive 1 on the C-64, which was a lot of fun since there wasn't really anything else like it. We got a lot of hours out of it. C-64 TD2 and Amiga TD1 were just a little better, but then I remember how great TD2 was on the Amiga.

If they don't bother to put in dashboards, it's just more of an arcade game vs. a driving/racing sim.

I popped in my Voodoo3 3000 and Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit. That game was so amazing to me when I was stuck on my 300MHz celeron. One of the few games I could enjoy at 1024x768 at high framerate.

The one thing that stood out the most on PS2s version for me was its excellent sense of speed , the sense of speed was very poor on xbox.

Read the PC and Xbox reviews, they tell you how much is differant from the better PS2 version. The screenshots even look differant.

 for Test Drive (the FIRST one). I think I had it on an IBM PC, though... running an 80286 at something like 16Mhz.
