Warning: the following post contains spoilers that might ruin your viewing experience.

Many people recommended this series to me. So I decided to rent it (Netflix). I watched for a few weeks, and the grand finale came last night.

What kind of ending is that to such a promising series???????

It all started well. The storyline was pretty good, even though they didn't explain anything about the enemy or what was going on. It just started with a bang. As the series progressed, the storyline got more complex and interesting. There was much more character development, and even more battles...

But then the last 2 episodes were a major WTF? Basically a psychological evaluation of the characters, especially the main character????? What about the epic battle that I was expecting at the end? What about the victory for the Evas??? What about explaining where all this came from? All these Angels??

I was expecting a major battle at the end, with some unexpected developments, but all I got was this mental evaluation of the main character (Shinji Ikari)... mixed with a bunch of flashbacks and weird images.....

I guess I overestimated the series.....

BTW, I'm not a serious Anime fan. I've seen only a couple of series so far.... so I don't know if this is the norm for most anime series....

You aren't finished until you've watched "The End of Evangelion". A post-production rehash of the ending which is more in-line with what the series was leading up to and has a little more explanation involved.

The whole jacking off to Asuka when she was passed out in the hospital bed was a bit bizarre, though.

yeah i don't quite remember the details but i think there are two movies that end the series. one movie fans hated. so they created another, End of Evangelion. which was 100x better. maybe i'm getting my facts mixed up but i really don't want to google it.

Death and Rebirth is a summary of the entire series. Go straight to End of Evangelion :)

I haven't watched it yet, but a friend got me this series and warned me not to bother with the included ending. Apparently they ran out of money and made a really poor ending, and then redid it later after the series became popular and they had more money.

The end was kinda WTF but the 2nd movie fills in all the gaps

the first movie is just a recap of the series.

Also, NGE > * anime

Basically the anime producers ran out of money at the end of the series, and those last 2 episodes are just rehash animations from past episodes put together to finish the season. Anime fans were pissed and disappointed asking for a true ending to Evangelion. End of Evangelion is basically the story of what actually happened, but the maker 'got back' at his fans in a way for forcing him to do another ending, completely destroying the original ending, including Shinji rejecting paradise because he's a whining baby.

Watch the movies first and then go for the last two episodes. I know it is kind of a wierd break, but you really get a better view of whats going on when you get hit by the philosophy stick in the end that way.

mmmmm... what?

Revival is just a condensed Death and Rebirth and The End of Evangelion.

They are supposed to be remaking the End again from what I have heard and read into 4 1 hour segments or something like that. Yea Eva was the 1st anime I ever watched. BLAAAAAaa nutsy stuff. The movies make more sense but the end of Evangellion Ending still make me go AHHHHHHHHHH WHAT JUST HAPPENED! So you have been warned OP.

That's just about everyone's reaction. Ending sucks major ass. If you're saying WTF now, wait until you see End of Evangelion. While better than the series ending, you're going to say WTF over and over again.
