I have a $100 Land's End gift certificate on there.

Who'd have thunk it?

I don't get it.

Are you saying unclaimed.org is a security hazard? I haven't tried to claim it yet.

Thanks for posting. Found out that I have unclaimed money from 2011 from Verizon Wireless. No idea how much it is, but I'm excited to get it in the mail :p

EDIT: Looked at my parents, they have money too. I'm sure it's trivial amounts, but "free" money is always nice.

LOL State of Texas site wants my SSN. Yeah, I don't think so!

While it's true they already have that info, no way I'm transmitting it over their site, for the $45 that's allegedly owed me.

While I empathize with your position on providing your social security number electronically, the money is legitimately owed to you if it's on the State of Texas' site. You can always print the documents and send them in, if that makes you feel more comfortable in providing your identification information.

Bah, no Nova Scotia? To hell with you! I'm going to go lobster fishing

The only province in Canada that has laws regarding escheatment compliance for companies is Alberta. There are a couple, British Columbia and Quebec, that have some minimal rules, generally around insurance companies, but otherwise ask that others companies voluntarily report property.

Unclaimed property is one area where the US consumer/employee laws trump Canada's.

BTW, part of my job is management of escheatment at a Fortune 250 company.
