..and did pretty bad. However I do have excuses :p. a) the track was slow...and slippery b) really humid (it had rained heavily the previous day and drizzled earlier in the day c) I wasnt' feeling to well myself.

My best run was a pathetic 16.121s @ ~84MPH with a 60ft time of ~2.4. I figure if I bring the 60-foot down to 2.2 (which is pretty damn hard) I should be able to get into high 15s, which is just about right for a stock automatic 99 Maxima GLE. My friend who also has a 99 GLE with a ypipe and intake only ran a best of 15.9. However when I got my 16.121, he got a 16.110 (we were both lined up together), however his MPH was higher at 88mph. Guess that y-pipe really does make a difference.

All in all, it wasn't really worth it that day. It took me around 3hours to get to the track and 2.5hours to get back home. I had a splitting headache so I left early from the track.

The cool part was seeing the other cars. Apparently it was cop night there, and a whole bunch of police officers came from the States with their family to race. It was pretty cool cause they had their sirens blaring as they went down the track. They ran pretty slow though, only mid 17s. I wanted to get a run next to them, but didn't get a chance. It would have been pretty cool to LEGALLY race a cop..hehe!

Some other cool cars I saw were a Fiero with a...get this...turbocharged 4.9L V8 (the ones from the pre-Northstar V8s). He ran low 14s. I saw a Grand National with a huge-ass aftermarket turbo (the turbo was HUGE), but he only managed to run mid 12s and got wheelspin halfway across the track (on what looked like slicks). That's how bad the track was that day.

There were a few motorcycles there too, most were running high 11s and one guy ran a 10s. However, one insane dude did a wheelie ACROSS THE ENTIRE TRACK! He managed to run mid 12s on one wheel..hehe..pretty freaking insane.

Also saw many Mustangs, some fast and some slow. A mid 60s Mustang (beautifully restored) only managed to run high 15s. There was a Neon there with rims, the Dodge logo blazen across his hood, etc..and he only ran 17s. There was a new Cavalier that ran mid 15s, which was a very nice run. The biggest surprise to me was seeing a Grand Am run low 15s. He must have had some stuff done to the car, thats for sure.

Some of the other Maximas in our group ran crappy times too, the best was a 15.03s from a '95 5-spd Maxima SE with a few mods. A few weeks ago he ran a 14.6s at the same track with less mods, so he was pretty dissappointed.

All in all, it wasn't the best day, but atleast now I got a feel for the track.

The last sentence is your flame-retardant suit. You should realize that your car is not a sports car, nor a drag racer, nor a muscle car and you'll do more harm than good by ricing it out and beating the crap out a car that was never meant to be drag raced.

But then again, it's your car.

So only sports cars and Drag cars are allowed on the track ? Have you ever thought he wanted to see what his car can do safely and legally ?

No, I didn't say that. Anyone who wants to see what his/her car can do in the quarter, SHOULD take it to a track. At least he wasn't street ricing...er, racing. I just stated that a Maxima is not a drag car. I'll leave before the other kiddies show up.

You should have said that to the 20-odd cops who showed up in their Crown Vics.

So should I show you videos of Maximas running 12.6s and timeslips of one running a 11.6s? Or how about that turbo minivan running 11s? Or how about pictures of a Lincoln Town Car and a Jag XJ8 running on a Auto-X. Any car can drag race or auto-x or whatever..it's all up to the driver.

btw, most of the Maxima enthusaists are previous Muscle car owners...they like to think of it as a cheap Japanese muscle car/sedan.

Are you auto or 5-spd? My friend with an almost identical car (he has a ypipe and AGX/springs) ran a best of 15.9s. His previous best is a 15.6s. The track was pretty bad this time around..no one was hooking up, even the GN with slicks.

Long as you had fun that's all that matters. Humid days are the worst to go - warm damp air getting sucked into your engine sucks. Try icing down your intake/air box next time for slightly better times, regardless of weather

What was your trap speed? That's indicative if your car should have gone faster or not

We have a track on the other side of town..I really should go sometime and see if I break 17. :p

MichaelD: How is running a 1/4 mile (basically a sprint to 80-90-ish, at least with the range car we're talking about) worse than merging to 80mph traffic from a slow onramp?

LoL the day I went drag racing I saw an old ass beetle that hit 16.6 ROFL ... you can hear it clunk down the strip.

I figured your 60-ft would have been in the 1.9s-2.1s area with RWD. I'm guessing with practice you'd be in 15.5s. btw, you should go Auto-Xing!!

That's pretty fast for an old stock Beetle. I've seen pics of them doing wheelies at the track and running 11s.

Yep Auto-Xing is where it's at ... I haven't had time to go down to the strip tho ... ** that time I got when I first time dragging **

Really? My buddy with the 99 GLE got a 88MPH when he ran a 16.11s. So he could be in 15.4s? That's pretty freaking good.

Yea I know. I would be embarrassed to take any stock car out there - you can just look up the stats from a magazine.
