..and did pretty bad. However I do have excuses
. a) the track was slow...and slippery b) really humid (it had rained heavily the previous day and drizzled earlier in the day c) I wasnt' feeling to well myself.
My best run was a pathetic 16.121s @ ~84MPH with a 60ft time of ~2.4. I figure if I bring the 60-foot down to 2.2 (which is pretty damn hard) I should be able to get into high 15s, which is just about right for a stock automatic 99 Maxima GLE. My friend who also has a 99 GLE with a ypipe and intake only ran a best of 15.9. However when I got my 16.121, he got a 16.110 (we were both lined up together), however his MPH was higher at 88mph. Guess that y-pipe really does make a difference.
All in all, it wasn't really worth it that day. It took me around 3hours to get to the track and 2.5hours to get back home. I had a splitting headache so I left early from the track.
The cool part was seeing the other cars. Apparently it was cop night there, and a whole bunch of police officers came from the States with their family to race. It was pretty cool cause they had their sirens blaring as they went down the track. They ran pretty slow though, only mid 17s. I wanted to get a run next to them, but didn't get a chance. It would have been pretty cool to LEGALLY race a cop..hehe!
Some other cool cars I saw were a Fiero with a...get this...turbocharged 4.9L V8 (the ones from the pre-Northstar V8s). He ran low 14s. I saw a Grand National with a huge-ass aftermarket turbo (the turbo was HUGE), but he only managed to run mid 12s and got wheelspin halfway across the track (on what looked like slicks). That's how bad the track was that day.
There were a few motorcycles there too, most were running high 11s and one guy ran a 10s. However, one insane dude did a wheelie ACROSS THE ENTIRE TRACK! He managed to run mid 12s on one wheel..hehe..pretty freaking insane.
Also saw many Mustangs, some fast and some slow. A mid 60s Mustang (beautifully restored) only managed to run high 15s. There was a Neon there with rims, the Dodge logo blazen across his hood, etc..and he only ran 17s. There was a new Cavalier that ran mid 15s, which was a very nice run. The biggest surprise to me was seeing a Grand Am run low 15s. He must have had some stuff done to the car, thats for sure.
Some of the other Maximas in our group ran crappy times too, the best was a 15.03s from a '95 5-spd Maxima SE with a few mods. A few weeks ago he ran a 14.6s at the same track with less mods, so he was pretty dissappointed.
All in all, it wasn't the best day, but atleast now I got a feel for the track.
