Also, I did not know, but hovering---just don't hit forward or backward and apparently it will hover. Anyway, these tips helped me get my helicopter badge recently. I just loaded up a Blackhawk and flew around a flag so they could unload with their mini cannons a while. They like that.

Well, not hitting forward and back won't necessarily make you hover. To hover you have to first level out. And once you're level if you don't hit up or down you will slowly decend until you land on the ground. If you tap accelerate a little then you can hover in place. The thing most people can't seem to grasp is the leveling out. This is done 100% with the mouse and thats what gets people. You have to tip the nose of the chopper up to slow the speed down and then bring the nose back to a level state. Anyways, lots of fun.

I'm running 800x600 with everything on low already. While it runs smooth, I've got the idea that throwing fraps on top of it would be the straw to kill it. The problem is that it has to be smooth to fly the chopper, 1 hiccup and I'm parking in a tree.

Now, I never played Battlefield 1942, or any of the other games at all. No demos, I don't even think I looked at screen shots or read any reviews. But because every other post in this forum was about Battlefield 2, I decided I had better get it.
I got it last week, and let it chill in the shrink wrap for a bit while I played Area 51 (purchased at the same time, pretty good game.) So I update my video drivers, and I press the upgrade button on the BF2 console, and install the patch. After a couple restarts, I'm ready to play. I read the instruction manual cover to cover while it's installing.
I think I'd rather take an internet course on how to solder your own microprocessor. Jesus, it's a game. I want to be able to put it in, and play it, and have fun. Instead I'm greeted with some unholy bastard child of an RTS and an FPS. I've got maps out my ass, telling me all kinds of things that I don't understand. I've got all these classes and squads that I have basically no clue about. I don't know who or where my squad leader is. I don't know how to call a medic. I don't know how all these people are getting vehicles. All I know is that I can kill everyone until I get to the boss of the level, which is a tank. But I can't find any panzerfausts to take him out with. Then by chance, my own team's tank wanders along and blows it up. But that doesn't win the level. Oh, and my own commander seems to continually hit me with artillery. Oh, and enemies and friendlies look pretty much the same.
The levels are huge and complex. There is a mind boggling amount of stuff all going on at the same time.
I wanted to sit down and play a game. I wanted it to be fun. Shoot some enemy soldiers, maybe drive a tank around. It all sounded good. But I have no desire to spend hours just learning what's going on. The learning curve is absolutely insane.
I'm not saying this is a bad game. Certainly a lot of you seem to enjoy it. But for me, it's too complicated. It's not fun. Just... complicated. If it makes you feel better, just say that I lack the mental facilities to play this game.
I'd rather take the time required to learn this game and master open heart surgery. I think the intracacies and complexity levels are pretty similar.
You'll find me playing Counter-Strike, or Doom, or Half-Life, or any other game where you shoot the bad guys.
Oh yeah, and multiplayer was entirely busted. No server list.

I used to have a problem with choppers. Then I did what someone recommended. Increase the mouse sensitivity up high for heli's, like 7 or 7.5 or whatever. Then make sure invert mouse is selected. Then you can practice on a server you setup for yourself. You'll just have to look at an annoying screen that says "waiting for another player to start". I did that a bit, and then started grabbing the choppers. Sure, you're gonna crash and have to bail out some, but that's to be expected.

Play it for awhile. If you want something easy with noo learning curve, play Freecell or Solitaire.
I have FPS skills. I expected an FPS. Thus little to no learning curve.
I played it a little more. It might grow on me. The maps seem enormous. It takes forever to run from point to point, and it seems like vehicles are few and far between. Vehicles also seem to make ground troops obsolete.
Also, maybe I'm just used to Counter-Strike: Source, but it seems to take a lot of bullets to kill another player.

Learning curve for bf2 sucks, it's not that the game is that complex but there is hardly anything to help new players.
