yea, the first game did have many lame quests like this, but a great overall storyline.
The second game has the mining mini-game which is pretty much the same thing, but necessary to upgrade your ship, which is critical for the endgame.

Playing the second game, i figured that I must have put mining companies out of business all across the galaxy. And decimated the mineral wealth economy as well. I don't think I left a single planet with a rating above poor, and most were left completely depleted. And it got kind of booring after a while.

Btw, you should play ME2 like this:

main game intro -> Kasumi (worth it)/Zaeed (free)/Overlord (nice the first time, boring on replay)/rest of main game quests all mixed in -> main game finale -> LOTSB (best mission in either ME game) -> Arrival (fun shooting)

For the optimal first-time experience, don't even install LOTSB/Arrival until you win the main game. But definitely buy LOTSB.

DA2 was such a disappointment because that franchise had established itself as the classic PC-style team-oriented rpg, and DA2 tried to be ME...or so people say. I still haven't played it.

DA:2 tried to be a console port. It was designed as such and so certain choices were dumbed down or removed entirely to fit.

Also, combat was made to be more action oriented and so instead of huge tactical battles, you got "Waves" of incoming enemies which really detracted.

Finally, it was clearly rushed as 70-80% of the game was based on 20% content, recycled over and over and OVER again. Same map but different enemies and spawn points. I think there were maybe 3 caves total, but dozens of "Cave" missions. Same with Warehouses and overland maps.

DA2 doesn't suck because its a console port. It sucks because EA rushed bioware to get it out within 8 months of DA's release, I found a blog post by 2 of bioware's former devs confirming this.

Its blatantly obvious - most of the items don't even have proper descriptions and most of the game takes place in the same area while you run around and collect quests in the same city. Its a shoddy job of a rush, and i'm disappointed that EA forced bioware to rush it.

One reason doesn't exclude the other. I agree with everything said about it being rushed.

It was however, also an attempt by EA to reach out to a broader audience - meaning - the more casual style gamers - or less diplomatic put, the type of console kiddies who likes spawning ninjas and the awesome button.

The tech (consoles) is not at fault - it's EA catering to the lowest common denominator that is the problem.

Ok. better worded. thanks

You will enjoy side quests of Mass Effect 2.

For the most part I did not. I felt the game (so far, ~20 hours) is incredibly boring. Mass Effect 1 was better all around. But I suppose if you like ME1, you will lie ME2. I felt ME1 was average and ME2 is a snooze fest.

Loved both ME1 & ME2 to have replayed them at least two times on increased difficulty levels (which defnitely was not the case with DA2). Beautiful graphics, intuitive controls and enjoyable storyline. The only complaints I have are of their linearity and lack of open-world exploration (aka Elder Scrolls style). Great games nonetheless.

Yeah those side missions in Mass Effect 1 were pointless. It was like the devs made a world for a side mission but forgot to add content to it. Just drive your jeep around, kill a couple guys and I can't even remember what I did it was so pointless.

Still a great game. There are very few games where I can follow the story but mass effect was superb.

I've really got to play ME 2. I've had it, unopened, on my shelf since this past Christmas. Don't know why, but I just never got around to it.
I got the first game a month or two after it came out, and beat it long before it came to the PC.

Loved it. Great game, if a tad short for an RPG.

I'll probably start ME 2 by the end of this week. 🙂
