So I finally decided to give crab cakes another go

A good crab cake will barely be able to hold itself together as the awesome tries to explode out from all sides not unlike a hydrogen bomb.

Also, if there's no Old Bay in there, immediately nuke it from orbit.

If you have access to lump crab meat, make your own crab cakes. They're EXTREMELY easy to make. Mix up all the ingredients, fold in the crab meat, and fry a few minutes on each side.

To my surprise these are some damn good crab cakes. (the MD ones).

Most grocery stores carry them in the frozen section.

The trick to getting them tasting really good IMO is to take them out mid way and smash/flatten them out then drizzle lemon juice over them. Then cook for another 10 or so mins, flip and drizzle and cook for another 5 or 10 mins then broil for about 3 to 5 mins.

Makes them nice and crispy on the outside and they're really tasty.

Also, as others have said, Red Lobster isn't the best place to get "good" seafood, of course neither is Captain D's or any other fast food sea food place.

Joe's Crab Shack is easily better than Red Lobster IMO.

Not a big fan of crab cakes. I don't know many foodies that are into crab cakes. Crab should been eaten with splash of lemon and drawn butter.

No, crabs should be eaten with Old Bay and an angry mallet.

You really shouldn't talk about things you know nothing about. I have lived in the DC area my entire life, have family on Maryland's Eastern Shore, and own property there currently and have never been warned about eating too many crabs, crab cakes, or oysters due to "pollution". Almost every small town down there has big oyster and crab dinners to raise money for the volunteer fire departments and people aren't dropping dead by the scores.

practically 0 of the US oyster harvest each year is from the chesapeake. oyster production in the chesapeake peaked over a century ago and has been trending downward ever since. about 75% of the US oyster production is the gulf coast. see slide 11

I was at Red Lobster and order a meal that came with crab cakes, shrimp, clam strips and fish. Absolutely disgusting just as I remembered, never again. While bad, they were still not as disgusting as oysters.

you arnt missing much Oysters are pretty much the most disgusting food item on the planet

crab is just meh, lobster is so much better

What you had is NOT a real crab cake. You ordered the fried platter, I know its what I got the last time i was there.

Go to a good place and get a real crab cake.

fixed

sweet oysters + ice cold martini = win

Oysters rock. I especially like them raw, but don't eat them much since they're basically the water's liver.

WTF is wrong with Oysters??? Srsly you people should be rounded up and put in camps so you don't contaminate younger generations.

I remember in middle school and high school, in the school lunch cafeteria, there a few huge old bay containers for people to put on their fries if they wanted

mmm, old bay

West coast or East coast seafood?

Lol, both!

Dissing either coast to favor the other is pure provincialism.

No, it's called reality. The Gulf Coast has all of the good shrimp. The West Coast has the good crabs.

You should try some shrimp from southeast asia. Puts the gulf to shame.

As far as seafood, west coast is far superior, no offense, it is what it is.

Sounds like you never had good Pac NW oysters, best in the world.

Hopefully some day when and if you come out to the northwest, you can try some of our oysters.

Damn, talking about this is getting me hungry.

Congrats. You just ate spiders. Filthy.

 way to talk out of your misinformed ass.

You mad you eat spiders?

No, I'm just mad people as dumb as you exist and have the nerve to vocalize their opinions. 😉

I fucking love crab cakes. You've got to have good ones though made with fresh crab meat and a good recipe. I go to this restaurant in Long Beach about once a year with some friends during the Long Beach Grand Prix weekend for breakfast and they have the best crab cakes benedict...I'm drooling just thinking about it. You don't have to eat lunch after that.

I also like the crab cakes at the Fish House Vera Cruz in Carlsbad and San Marcos. They sell them to go and you can get their mango salsa to go over them...they are fabulous.

I don't eat them very often though because they are full of butter...which is probably why they are so good.
