West coast or East coast seafood?

Lol, both!

Dissing either coast to favor the other is pure provincialism.

No, it's called reality. The Gulf Coast has all of the good shrimp. The West Coast has the good crabs.

There is this thing called importing that solves that problem though.

MD is the best place for anything crab. Most other areas don't even cook them right. They're supposed to be steamed, not boiled, and Marylanders know how to season them properly.

I prefer gulf coast preparation more.

You just proved my point. You have apparently never visited the Chesapeake Bay area of MD or you would never make such a provincial statement.

West coast Dungeness crab rules. Bigger, meatier, and sweeter than those tiny blue crabs.
Not as polluted either.

In the six months that I was in the area, I never saw a place in the South Bay pushing them 🙁

Wrong. I have relatives in Maryland and D.C. and have eaten blue crab many times.
It's still from a polluted area. I think you are warned to eat only so much crab there.

Maryland-style crabcakes are the best. Jimmy's Famous Seafood (Baltimore, MD) makes the best crabcakes...EVER!

The South Bay is a culinary wasteland. And Dungeness crab is a seasonal thing here.
Try some after Thanksgiving. I even saw a southern chef on the food channel admitting that Dungeness crab is better.

You really shouldn't talk about things you know nothing about. I have lived in the DC area my entire life, have family on Maryland's Eastern Shore, and own property there currently and have never been warned about eating too many crabs, crab cakes, or oysters due to "pollution". Almost every small town down there has big oyster and crab dinners to raise money for the volunteer fire departments and people aren't dropping dead by the scores.

chesapeake is practically barren. sure, there's a little bit of shellfish coming out of it, but most of what is served there is from the gulf coast.

and blue crab is the tastiest. easiest to eat, no.

I was at Red Lobster and order a meal that came with crab cakes, shrimp, clam strips and fish. Absolutely disgusting just as I remembered, never again. While bad, they were still not as disgusting as oysters.

Why go to red lobster if you hate seafood? Go to applebees and save some money.

as others said, going to chain places is a ridiculousy horrible idea when you want *good* food. red lobster has ok cheesy biscuits, chilis might have a so so burger or chicken, but really , please, eat local.

and omfg i just saw youre in NC. eat at a god damn local place ffs. its a coastal state, you dont need some god damn red lobster if you want seafood.

edit: ohhh your profile says nc

find somewhere local anyway, but if you cant get freshly packed crab, crabcakes or whatever will suck. go to the coast...and get some in season.

Long John Silvers crabcakes are very good. I couldnt go more than a few days without them back in 2006/7. Now Im kind of burned out on them.🙁

Unless you live in an area where you can drive to the ocean in 10 minutes or less you won't find a good crab cake in a restaurant. Try making your own, they're not hard and are delicious when done properly.

FYI, Red Lobster is not the best place to go to experience good seafood, just as McDonalds doesn't make the best hamburger.

 This man speaks truth.

I gave up on crab cakes too. Every time I tried them they dd not taste like crab to me. Until I had Frank's, Rehoboth beach, crab cakes. You can actually see and taste the clunks of crab meat in the patties.

I'm not a big crab cake fan, but I like them once in a while. Down south they tend to cajun them up with a ton of red pepper. Whooooboy!

theres your problem, red lobster lol

Thats the mcdonalds of seafood

if you want crab cakes, come to maryland

Maryland does two things, crabcakes and football!
