So I finally bought a Zippo

I've always wanted a Zippo, but I just couldn't see spending $40 on one, which is what the basic ones cost at my local Army surplus store. I was at WalMart today though, and saw in the jewelry section that they had a Zippo display with a basic gray stainless model for $9.97! They had designer models for more $$ (the only one I specifically remember was a John Deere design for like $35).

I immediately scooped up the $9.97 one and bought it, but when I got home I realized that you have to fill it yourself, as the batting doesn't come soaked with lighter fluid from the factory (which makes sense, now that I think about it).

Anyway, where can I get fluid for the Zippo? I remember seeing replacement flints and wicks at WalMart, but I would have noticed bottles of fluid, which they definitely didn't have.

Would I get ripped off by a local smoke shop? Would K-Mart or Target have this?

Go back to walmart. They usually sell tin cans that look like gas/deisel containers that have the zippo design on em.

That's why zippos suck. Easier to spend 99 cents on something you can throw away than worrying about having to replace flints, wicks, and fluid every couple weeks.

I like my Zippo lighter, got the stainless steel grey model myself. Used it to melt shoe polish wax to shine my boots back in the day.

I actually just bought a good sized canister of lighter fluid from an eBay store. rDauvin's fishing shop to be exact.

99 cents on a lighter that sucks at being lit and will damn well burn your finger if you try to keep it lit for too long. Zippo is better than Bic, period.

i buy my zippo lighter fluid at local smoke shops. my wal-mart doesnt sell the fluid or flints (website claims they do). ive gone to a few shops and the price is always the same (usually a couple bucks for the smaller can). pick up some flints also. they only run for like a buck.

my zippo is a 'eye of horus' lighter that a friend got for me from ebay ($18 or something). even got it engraved with my initals on the back. i always carry my zippo with me. its come in handy on a few occasions.

I usually buy lighter fluid at the drug store... I've been using the same flint for 6 years now, even though I have a flint refill pack and I have gone through mabye 10$ in fluid

Zippos are classier than bic lighters. Zippos light cigars better. Zippos are more reliable (you wouldn't call your car unreliable because you forgot to fuel it, would you?). Zippo branded lighters are the most reliable of the whole type. Getting a design on a Zippo is pointless because it's like putting a bumper sticker on a maybach.... you just don't do it.... My Zippo is more than 60 years old and is one of my most prized posessions.

Get a pet rabbit. At a designated time every day, take the rabbit into the bathroom and engage in loud shouting matches. If your roommate inquires, refuse to discuss the situation.

I use any type of lighter fluid in my zippo. It doesn't have to be the zippo brand. In my area you can find lighter fluid at most gorcery stores, pharmacies and of course any smoke shop.

So any lighter fluid works? Cool, that makes it a lot cheaper. But will it light just as well?

I've used Coleman's white gas, which is intended for my MSR camping stove, for my zippo and it works just fine.
