So I drove my first Evo 9 MR today...

I woke up today thinking that it was going to be another boring day, but boy, was I wrong. My friend had just got back from a trip, and since he was in a happy mood, I decided to take advantage and ask him for the keys. He gave them to me without a second thought (friends don't let friends drive $40K cars) and so to my excitement, I jumped into the car and started her up.

The sound oozing out of the 3.5" exhaust was music to my ears. I'm actually not quite sure what other mods he has, but when I took it out for a spin, I could hear a filter/intake sucking in more and more air as I gradually pressed on the accelerator. Then, at 3.5kish, my head jerked back as the turbo came to full boost and before I knew it, I was at 5.5k rpm, which is when I shifted (I was taking it easy on the car), only to hear the "whoosh" of the stock recirc bov. I hit second, and slowly started getting on it again and at 5.5k, released the pedal to hear the bov exhale all of the excess boost. I did this for a while (people driving next to me were prob pissed since everyone had their window down) and although I had the urge to get on the highway and let her rip, my senses convinced me otherwise. All in all, it was a great experience and I recommend people to test it out. It's definately worth your time .

Now, some of you guys prob have Z06's and such and won't think much about the story, but I'm used to driving a 1995 Nissan Sentra, which takes about 15 seconds to hit 60 mph...

I'm actually thinking about it. I'm in the process of getting rid of my 240, and I have some money saved but I'm not quite sure of the reliability (evo's are new so there hasn't been that many problems with them, although it could all change in 2-3 years...).

Nice car. I was actually going to get an EVO MR, but decided on the STI instead. Best daily driver I've had.

Do you have a lot of winding roads and low traffic on your commute or something? :p

My friend has a WRX sporting about 300 to the wheels. It's fast, but the exhaust noise is too loud and has that weird rumbling to it.

I work from midnight -> 11am. Freeway driving w/ less cars = mucho fun. I try to take different routes, local/highway to mix things up. Of course this is all for daily driving. Tracking it is different of course ;p.

That's the boxer engine rumble. I LOVE IT!

Now, try driving a car with an open BOV and no cats(with probably near on 350+ bhp by 2500rpm) =).
I seriously just romp on the gas just to blow off because I like the sound so much. Downtown it's two lanes with buildings on either side and I just get on it to hear the exhaust echo and the bov.
hah.

I've done that already :). My friend has a 300ZX TT pushing insane power, and he only has test pipes. Regardless to say, he doesn't have a first and second gear (no traction)...

Forgot to add, I crap myself everytime I'm in it.

But that rumbling is the best part! The Subaru boxer rumble is soooo intoxicating.

heh, I have a simular experience (I hate spelling). My brother has an SRT4 (cheap speed!) that hes gonna let me drive (albeit after I do some mods for him). Has ~260 HP to the wheels (hoping to up it around 300 after a few more mods), but driving stuff like that is awesome. I drive a 77 Caprice Classic, so that little gofast car is awesome. Oh yea, and Magnum SRT8s are really fun too (rich grandparents for the win!)

Love the boxer rumble, but you can get a quiet catback and equal length headers to make it sound like an inline 4

Ooohhh :). My friend was talking about a new Greddy Evo exhaust that came out for his car (WRX). I have had experience with the Evo 2 and it sounds VERY nice, so I can only imagine what it must sound like on a rex.

i saw a dude with that Evo FQ430 or what ever it is

its got 430 horses and needs servicing like every 4k or something daft like that. tyres need regular changing too.

you may of seen it on top gear, when JC raced a lambo in it. and then showed you it getting beaten biat a fiat panda or something in a race from 30mph in 6th gear. turbo lag is a bitch lol but its fun to wait for.

my fav turbo car is definately the XJ220 jag. had the 3.5litre twin turbo unit from the metro 6R4 B-spec rally monster. that thing sits at like 50-60mph for ages, then all of a sudden the barn door turbos spin up and then you cant change gear fast enough to keep up! before you know it your on the thick end of 150!
